Review of the In finding the missing term in a direct proportion,
previous lesson what do we need to determine first?

Give example.

How about in inverse proportion, what do we need to

determine first?
B. Developmental

Let us read the problem:
Discussion Mrs. Santos bought pizza for her 3 children. She
divided the pizza in the ratio 4:2:1. There were 24
total slices of pizza, how many would each child
have?

To illustrate the problem:

This problem is an example of partitive proportion.

In partitive proportion, a number is being divided or

distributed into two or more unequal parts.

Let us now solve the problem.

Step 1: Determine the whole number and the ratio.
Whole = Ratio
24 = 4:3:1
Step 2: Add the ratios equal to the whole number.
24 = 4N + 3N + 1N
24 = 8N
Step 3: Divide bothe sides by the number with N.
24 = 8N
8 8
3=N
Step 4: substitue the value of N then multiply.
24 = 4(3) + 3(3) + 1 (3)
24 = 12 + 9 + 3
Step 5: Check your answer
24 = 12 + 9 + 3
24=24

Example #2:
In a class of 40, the ratio of boys to girls is 3:5. How
many are boys?

GENERALIZATION we need to determine first?

What are the next steps?

V. APPLICATION Solve the problems.
1. The ratio of the three sides of a triangle is
1:2:3. what are the measurements of each side
if the perimeter of the triangle is 120cm?
2. The total weight of Santino, Rico and Bong is
112 kg. Their weights are in the ratio 3:1:4.
What is Santino’sweight?

VI. EVALUATION Identify the type of proportion then solve the problem.
1. . In a tree planting project, 4 people can plant
10 trees. If there are 12 people, how many trees
can they plant?
2. A basket of food is sufficient to feed 10 people
for 3 days. It will last for ____ days for 5 people.
3. White boards and marking pens are in the ratio
of 3:2 and the total number is 35. How many
white boards and marking pens are there?
VI.. ASSIGNMENT Answer Mathematics book page 236.
