Does social media do more harm than good?

Social media is widely used in the Philippines, and the number of people using it has increased
dramatically since the pandemic started, whether they are young or old. How does it affect us? Does it
harm us or do we gain from it?

You can use social media for many purposes, including sharing, chatting, etc. Students have also
benefited from social media because when the pandemic began, our government banned face-to-face
classes for the safety of students, so social media improved educational opportunities. In addition, those
who have lost their jobs have also benefitted from it, because most of them have been able to sell
online, and many Filipinos have been able to survive because of it.

However, social media is not only good for us but has many negative effects as well, such as being
addicted to social media, especially young people. They forget to take care of themselves and are always
attached to their gadgets. Bullying is another issue, as it has been made worse by social media. Many
people are toxic on social media and are always attacking others. Furthermore, social media reduces
self-esteem, and people prefer to interact online than in real life, resulting in social anxiety and other
mental issues.

As a result, I believe social media does more harm than good.
