WHY?

Over the last 2 years, we have developed a data warehouse architecture and
modelling framework, last year we started building APIs and a frontend turning this
framework into a SaaS-ready engine to enable various stakeholders to answer
hydrological questions about their projects. We call this engine Periscope.
Periscope’s frontend is map- and visualization-heavy, leverages the existing data
structures and schemas provided by our hydrologist to enable a low-friction
environment to build the required UI to construct, run and visualise hydrology
models and outputted model results. We use React and TypeScript for our frontend.
For forms and generic UI elements, we currently use and extend Material UI. Mapping
is done using Mapbox and any elements on the map are described using geoJson and
geoTiff files. Graphing large amounts of data is handled by embedding Tableau
dashboards which are crafted by our Tableau expert. We prefer to use tried and
tested technologies instead of reinventing the wheel. We always question if there’s a
more elegant solution for the problem we’re trying to solve. Even if that means taking
a step back at times.
As we’re planning to launch the first version of Periscope the number of frontend-
related tasks keep increasing, so we’re looking to grow our team with frontend-first
developers with the option to contribute to all parts of our stack as time goes by and
we grow. Being somewhat comfortable with React and TypeScript is important.
Having an inkling of understanding of AWS and the Python programming language
are nice-to-haves.

WHO?
We are fully committed to gender equality and flexible working and will consider
requests for full or part-time working patterns with home based working to suit. A
life-work balance (deliberately with ‘life’ first) is essential for a sustainable future. We
are seeking a resourceful and self-motivated individual to work collaboratively as
part of our team.

WHERE?
This is not a conventional business, and it follows that this is not a conventional job
opportunity. There will be no neat little box for you to sit in (either physically or
metaphorically). This role will be home/remote working in UK with ideal geographies
being Wales, Midlands and the Southwest or the London and the Southeast. We are
willing to consider applications from further afield so don't let your geography limit
your horizons.
