Level: Intermediate

Objective: Students will be able to use the first conditional to talk about future possibilities and
consequences.

Materials:

 Online platform for video conferencing (e.g. Zoom, Skype)

 Presentation slides on the first conditional

 Online exercises on the first conditional (e.g. quizlet, kahoot)

 Audio-visual materials (optional)

Warm-up (5 minutes):

 Ask students if they have any plans for the weekend.

 Have them type their answers on the chat box.

 Ask students what they will do if it rains on the weekend.

 Have them type their answers on the chat box.

Presentation (10 minutes):

 Share the presentation slides on the first conditional.

 Explain to students that the first conditional is used to talk about future possibilities
and consequences.

 Show an example sentence on the slide and ask students to identify the two parts of
the sentence (if clause and main clause).

 Explain that the if clause is in the present simple, and the main clause is in the future
simple (will + base verb).

Practice (20 minutes):

 Share an online exercise on the first conditional (e.g. quizlet, kahoot).

 Ask students to join the game and complete the exercise.

 Monitor their progress and provide assistance when needed.

Production (15 minutes):

 Ask students to imagine that they are planning a trip to a new city.

 Tell them to type down three things they will do if the weather is good, and three
things they will do if the weather is bad on the chat box.

 Ask some students to share their plans with the class.

Wrap-up (5 minutes):

 Review the key points of the lesson.

 Ask students if they have any questions.


 Assign homework (e.g., write five first conditional sentences about their plans for the
future).

 Thank students for their participation.
