Chapter 2

RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY

The goal of this quantitative study was to assess the relationship of employee

recognition on employee retention of teaching personnel at Colegio de San Gabriel

Archangel, which is located in Brgy Fatima 1, Area E, Sapang Palay, City of San Jose

Del Monte, Bulacan, Philippines. The purpose of this paper was to investigate the

teaching staff's satisfaction with the relativity of recognizing their contributions to the

organization.

This chapter describes how the quantitative study was carried out, including a

detailed account of the methodology used to collect data. Specific procedures for data

collection were also explained.

Research Design

A quantitative, correlational research design was chosen to investigate the

relationship of employee recognition on employee retention of teaching personnel at

Colegio De San Gabriel Arcanghel. The design was chosen as a means to determine if

there are significant benefits to recognizing their work within the organization by

conducting a survey of all of the school's teaching staff.

Research Locale

Figure 3 presents the location map of Colegio de San Gabriel Arcangel. The school is

perfectly placed in Barangay, among a pleasant residential area and commercial

establishment in Fatima I, Area E, Sapang Palay, near Sapang Palay National High

School (SPNHS) and San Jose del Monte National Trade School (SJDMNTS).

Respondents or Participants of the Study

The respondents in this study are the teaching personnel of Colegio de San

Gabriel Archangel, and the survey was intended to be administered to a total of one

hundred respondents from the elementary, high school, senior high school, and college

departments. To protect the respondents' privacy, the provided data and identity of the

employees, which includes the respondents' names, age, and length of service, will be

kept confidential.
Sampling Design

The researchers will use Simple Random Sampling. A simple random sample is

a population subset that has been chosen at random. With this sampling technique,

every person in the population has the exact same probability of getting chosen.

(Lauren Thomas 2022)

The researchers used this kind of sampling technique in order to collect data

about the relationship of employee recognition on employee retention of teaching

personnel at Colegio de San Gabriel Arcangel. The researchers are guaranteed that

100 teaching personnel are enough to validate this research.

In measuring the number of samples in this study, the researcher will use the

formula of random sampling.

The formula of random sampling is, if that sample gets selected only once,

Here;

P = probability

n = sample size

N = population
Instrumentation

The research tool that will be used is based on quantitative research, or the

researchers will utilize a survey questionnaire that will be given to the respondents who

are required for the study.

A survey questionnaire with multiple choice options will be distributed by the

researcher. The research instrument will be made with the use of Google forms to avoid

disturbance to the employees and also in distributing them through emails makes it

easier for us to gather data, and also it will be beneficial to the respondents because

they won’t have to write their names instead they will type it using their phones and they

are only going to choose their answer on the following choices.

Moreover, once the facts have already been gathered. The instrument will be

computed and tabulated to present the study's findings.

Validation of the Instrument

The questionnaire was created by the researcher and validated by ___ expert

validators and a research adviser who performed face validation and ensured the

instrument's stability.

Data Gathering Procedure

First, the researcher’s prepared questionnaires for their survey. The respondents

will be oriented by the researchers about their survey. Direction is given and listed in the

survey questionnaires however, in that direction the respondents will not make a
mistake by answering our questionnaire. Respondents will also be informed that once

they are done they can return it back to the researchers.

When all the data is gathered already and completely, all the responses will be

calculated and tabulated by the researchers.

Ethical Considerations

During the research period, the researcher strictly followed and implemented the

following ethical guidelines:

1. The teachers' dignity and well-being were always respected.

2. The researcher provides respondents with the decisional capacity to respond

to survey questionnaires.

3. Throughout the study, the research data was kept confidential, and

respondents gave permission to use their real names in the research report.

4. Data collected for this study, including consent and analyzed data, will be kept

in secure storage for at least five (5) years before being disposed of in

accordance with Colegio De San Gabriel Arcangel's research data disposal

policy. Respect for the participants and the site was emphasized throughout the

study.
Statistical Treatment of the Data

The following statistical procedures were used to interpret the data gathered from

the respondents of the study.

1. Frequencies and percentages were used to determine the distribution of

respondents according to age, gender, length of service, department and

position.

Weighted Average (GWA).

𝑃 = × 100

Where:

P = the Percentage

f = the Frequency

N = the total number of respondents

100 = the constant value

2. Weighted Mean. The statistical tool was used to compute the weight of the

respondents in the questionnaire assigned by the respondents during the

actual data-gathering procedure. The formula for the weighted mean is as

follows:
Where;

∑= summation x= the value

W= the weights

3. Like Scale. The following Likert Scale serves as the guide for interpreting the

data gathered. Formula: 𝑛−1

4. Independent t-Test, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and Scheffé Test. It is a

way to determine whether there is a statistically Relationship of employee

Recognition on Retention of employees based on their demographic profile.
