Reflection
I was placed in the Chester Area School District for physical education and health. My
duties were to create lesson plans that were engaging and thoughtful for health and physical
education. Going into this year of student teaching, I had very minimal experience and exposure
to the classroom, teaching, and creating lesson plans. I struggled with my classroom
management and being able to quickly change a lesson plan and to make adjustments for the
next class so the activity went smoothly. My mentor teacher, Ben DeRynck, was a great role
model and example of how I should model my classroom management and gave me tips and
tricks on how to better manage a class. I feel now I am able to quickly notice something that will
not work and quickly adjustment it so it can work better and be more effective. I was really
excited to teach physical education because that is what my major is. However, I was pretty
nervous when it came to the health portion because up till then, I had no experience in a regular
classroom setting. With that being said, my mentor teacher had given me tips to make the
adjustment easier. When I first started teaching health, I was staying in one place and not
walking around and I was reading directly off the presentation. Towards the end of the year, I
was walking around more and I would make a note sheet of the things I want to add to the
discussion. I feel as if I made tremendous progress when it comes to my teaching adaptability.
At first I would stick to went what my lesson plan was and make little adjustments and now I
know how and when to make adjustments.
