CHAPTER I
PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
This chapter shows the problem and the background of the research, it
Contains the following vital information about the study, introduction, and
how we Came up and conceptualized the specific problem, together with its
significance and its scope and limitation, also the definition of terms.

INTRODUCTION:
Nowadays many young people are trying to build their own business.
Many of them succeed at a young age and many do not. This research refers
to the readiness of an entrepreneur when it comes to entrepreneurship; here
we want to know whether the majority are ready when it comes to building
their own business or whether they are ready to face the factors that may
hinder as they try to enter the business industry.

The importance of this study is to know and learn if aspiring

entrepreneurs are ready when it comes to entrepreneurship, the researchers
would inform others what they will gather from this research. Also they can
use or apply it to themselves in case they want to do business in the future;
especially this study is related to the strand they took which is ABM. Another,
its importance is to show or give an answer whether these variables such as
Opportunity Identification, Motivational Factors, Resources and
Entrepreneurial Ability are relevant to the readiness of an entrepreneur and
answer the questions that can help our future entrepreneurs, that they can be a
guide towards their entry into business industry
SYSTEMS PLUS COMPUTER COLLEGE
3SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

The purpose of this study is to determine the entrepreneurial readiness

of the ABM students considering the factors like how they could Identify
Opportunities in business industry, Sourcing Resources to supply the needs of
their business, Factors that motivates them to pursue a business and their
ability to manage a business at their young age.

The researchers chose this topic, because in the current era. Many of
the people especially the teens, want to have their own business but are they
really ready enough to enter the business industry? That is one of the
questions that we want to answer as researchers of this research and we also
want to help others so that in the future they can use it as a guide to their
business. And another reason why the researchers choose this topic because
they wanted to know what the future entrepreneurs are going to do next when
they are ready to start their business. As we all know that nowadays it’s so
challenging to build a business because of the situations occurring nowadays
like the pandemic.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Young entrepreneurs in today’s generation are generally categorized
as millennials. As the first digitally native generation, these business
innovators have seen an era of unprecedented development that impacts their
everyday life. It is no wonder that the millennials view of innovation has been
rigorously involved in pursuing innovative solutions to solve current
challenges. Combine innovation with today’s highly interconnected world,
these young entrepreneurs have access to nearly everything needed to enable
them to start their own business.
SYSTEMS PLUS COMPUTER COLLEGE
4SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

According to Tuffile (2015), Bentley University Director of

Entrepreneurial Studies, millennials are realizing that starting a company,
even if it crashes and burns, teaches them more in two years rather than sitting
in a cubicle for 20 years. They believe, however, that innovation plays more
of a role than simply adding to a company’s bottom line. In its Third Annual
Millennials Study, Deloitte held 80 percent of millennialism view business
innovation as positively impacting society and providing a launch pad for new
ideas. Perhaps, driven by the need for purpose and meaning in their careers,
millennials entrepreneurs tend to see the world through a very different lens
than the generation before them.

Students think that starting a business will help them to earn their own
money, help their parents a little and themselves. So the researchers are
curious if they are really ready to build their business. Since we are at the
middle of pandemic times, the researchers want to identify if ABM students,
the aspiring entrepreneurs, are able and prepare enough for all the risk that
they will face while they will launch their business.

The researchers have observed that most of their classmates were fully
engaged on some business related-activities. Out of curiosity, they would like
to hear different point of view of some of the youth entrepreneurs who still on
the business track, because based on the researchers’ observation, there are
student entrepreneurs who started with no investment wherein they are
applying payment first policy. Resources are one of the necessities to run a
business and most of the young entrepreneurs are lack of it. When we say
Resources this are the variable that affects the usage of equipment in starting
a business. Another factor that affects your business is having an
entrepreneurial ability, because having the said quality makes your business
SYSTEMS PLUS COMPUTER COLLEGE
5SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

more successful. What strategies this student going to do to make the business
keep going.

In identifying the opportunities this is the point at which identifiable

consumer demand meets the feasibility of satisfying the requested product or
service. In the field of entrepreneurship, specific criteria need to be met to
move from an idea into an opportunity. In motivational factors this are the
strategies, incentives, recognitions and any other elements that increase an
employee's overall motivation to perform their duties at work. You can
implement several different factors of motivation within your team or for
yourself to increase productivity and satisfaction. And lastly in
Entrepreneurial ability this are normally associated with being an
entrepreneur, although anyone can develop them.

Being an entrepreneur usually means starting and building your own

successful business, but people with entrepreneurial skills can thrive within
larger organizations, too that’s why the researchers will push through in
studying this topic because results of this study could give the answers from
their queries and widen the range of their knowledge in entrepreneurship.

CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter presents the related literature and studies after the
thorough and in-depth search done by the researchers. This contains readings and
literature from different sources like journals, websites, articles and dissertation
related to the study. Those that were included in this chapter helps in familiarizing
information that are relevant and similar to the present study.

LOCAL LITERATURE
MJ Gonzales (2019) “Young people should be encouraged to do
business” We know that anyone, educated or not, can start a business but not
everyone who tries it becomes successful in the end. One of the reasons is the lack
of entrepreneurial skills needed in doing business, in any career, and even in
handling money.

Conchada (2013) “Entrepreneurship in the Philippines" stated that

the population of the Philippines is young with nearly 70% aged below 30 years and
with an average age of 23.4 years as of 2010. The youth also accounts for the largest
portion of the unemployed Filipinos. This is despite the 300 start-ups in the country,
most of which were founded between 2012 and 2017 (QBO Innovation Hub and
PwC Philippines, 2018). The study further indicated that this group of locals, who
are under the age of 35 as of this year, is estimated to amount to 69.5 million of the
population. Clearly, there is a large untapped portion of the youth who could have
opted to start an enterprise.

FOREIGN LITERATURE

Laksh Yadav (2021) “Challenges for young entrepreneurs for an

established business” Dreams do come true, but they come with tons of
unprecedented challenges that one isn’t ready for, especially when one is kick-
starting their entrepreneurial journey as a young entrepreneur. Even though we are
brimming with innovative ideas that can turn silver into gold, we face a myriad of
issues other than lack of funds, experience and the right kind of exposure while
leading our business. Moreover, ever since the pandemic began, the problems that
we, as young entrepreneurs, have to tackle have become even bigger.

Suharyono (2017) “Attitudes and Behavior of Entrepreneurs”

states an entrepreneur is someone free to determine and run his own business and
take advantage of opportunities to develop his business. Ability to identify
opportunities related to new, valuable, legal, and prospective ideas. Good
opportunities should be by one's abilities, desire to carry out certain activities, goals,
experience, and business knowledge.

Allison, M. (2016). “ Youth entrepreneurship in the Philippines:

issues and challenges” According to the President and CEO of RFM Corporation, a
viable solution to overcome these challenges today is by promoting entrepreneurship
and giving Filipinos the proper knowledge and tools to start their own businesses.
He further added that the importance of developing an innovative and
entrepreneurial culture is a crucial part of the Philippines' developed state future.
Entrepreneurship directly leads to more businesses, more job opportunities and
better quality of life.

FOREIGN STUDIES
Al Rayes and Kayiaseh (2017) “Demand and Supply Firms’ Interlock:
A Youth-Based Entrepreneurial Initiative'' Entrepreneurship is the action of an
entrepreneur to create, accept risk, and invest in new economic endeavors. Thus, it is
considered an effective means of addressing youth unemployment and self-
sufficiency, which could be a source of economic growth and innovation in any
country.

Seun Azeez Olugbola (2017) “Entrepreneurial readiness of youth and

startup success components: Entrepreneurship training as a moderator” The study
examined the effect of entrepreneurship training on young people's readiness to
engage in entrepreneurial activity and the components behind successful startups.
The findings highlight the positive effect of opportunity identification, motivation,
and resources on entrepreneurship and the central role of entrepreneurship training
in all factors, including entrepreneurial ability. The role of entrepreneurship training
implies that young individuals are able to develop their entrepreneurial ability. The
study thus shows the individual's ability to change over the course of a lifetime. For

individuals interested in the startup process, this study provides information capable
of influencing their new business ventures.

Rusdin (2017) “Education and Training as a Means of Competency

Improvement” The entrepreneurial ability exists in an entrepreneur and is
indispensable in starting a business and managing its business, such as management
skills, financial management skills, marketing skills, the ability to formulate
effective business planning, team building skills, and administrative skills. A person
obtains these abilities after attending training.

Mardetini et al. (2017) “Enhancement Entrepreneurial Knowledge

and Interest in Creative Industries in the District Pemulutan Ogan Ilir ''
Entrepreneurial motivation is not innate but through a process of education and
experience. One form of entrepreneurship education is through entrepreneurship
training. Entrepreneurship training will provide knowledge about entrepreneurship,
form and improve skills, and increase relationships among entrepreneurs.

Ho et al. (2018) “Impact of Entrepreneurship Training on

Entrepreneurial Efficacy and Alertness among Adolescent Youth. Frontiers in
Education” states that entrepreneurship training is an effective way of shaping
entrepreneurial ability to increase entrepreneurial readiness. This study aims to
determine the effect of motivation, identification of opportunities, resources, and
entrepreneurial abilities on entrepreneurial readiness and the role of
entrepreneurship training as a moderating variable for the impact of these factors on
entrepreneurial readiness.

readiness to set up a business and supports business success.

Alam et al. (2019) “Role of entrepreneurial motivation on

entrepreneurial intentions and behaviour: theory of planned behaviour extension on
engineering students in Pakistan” shows that entrepreneurship training can increase
new entrepreneurs because it can increase entrepreneurial motivation.

on Business Performance of Street Vendors in Kraksaan City” Good resources will
affect production results, creating high and useful product or service values to
competence and increase entrepreneurial performance (output). To start a business
also requires a variety of abilities both for the entrepreneur himself and for his
employees. Entrepreneurial ability is the characteristics, traits, insights, and skills
that become someone's provision for entrepreneurship and managing everything
related to the task carried out to run effectively

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

Manisha & Singh (2016) Entrepreneurship is taken from the French

word, entreprendre, meaning "to undertake. It is to undertake new business ventures.
There are many other definitions about entrepreneurship but there are no common
agreements about the definitions. Commonly believe that entrepreneurship is the
creation of new business. It begins with economic opportunities to exploit and the
capital to turn the economic opportunity into real business. It starts with the journey
of exploration and navigating risk to create value for profit and social good

Cox (2011)  who are the entrepreneurs?  These are the people who
see problems not as problems but  economic opportunity, and  after  seeing
the  opportunity,  they figure  out a  way to  acquire the needed  resources, and  act
to  turn  the opportunity  into a business  opportunity. They use their financial
resources to create business and employment and consequently improve the well-
being of the people or the community. Through entrepreneurship, one can also help
individuals, families, organizations, and communities

Without entrepreneurs, the world economy cannot grow and prosperity

cannot be achieved. They are the inventors who generate new ideas and find ways to
create something new that is beneficial to society. These are the people who will
not  just  look  around  and  see  problems  but  when  they  look  around,  they  will
see opportunities. They are achievers who are willing to work long and hard to reach
their personal goals. They like to plan and are committed to making things happen.

CHAPTER III
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

METHODOLOGY

This chapter provides a comprehensive explanation of the various

methodologies used for the study. The researcher gathers data and information for
the study and provides information on the population, sample, and sampling
technique. This chapter provides descriptions of the research design and data
collection technique.

RESEARCH DESIGN

This study will conduct using quantitative research techniques. The

researcher made an effort to find solutions to the aforementioned issue in order to
SYSTEMS PLUS COMPUTER COLLEGE
17SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

support and fulfill the study's goals. Additionally, it made an effort to understand the
various effects on their way of life.

This study will use a descriptive method of research. The researcher

attempts to study Entrepreneurial Readiness as Perceived by ABM students at
Systems Plus Computer College Caloocan Campus in terms of Opportunity
Identification, Motivational Factors, Resources, and Entrepreneurial Ability.
Quantitative methods were used to observe the relationship between the variables
with the principal objective analyzed and associated mathematically through the use
of statistical analysis.

According to Calderon (2018), descriptive research viewed as what exists

by asking questions and understanding what people or things mean is used both in
quantitative and qualitative research.

In the most basic terms, quantitative research methods are concerned with
collecting and analyzing data that is structured and can be represented numerically.
One of the central goals is to build accurate and reliable measurements that allow for
statistical analysis. Because quantitative research focuses on data that can be
measured, it is very effective at answering the “what” or “how” of a given situation.
Questions are direct, quantifiable, and often contain phrases such as what
percentage? What proportion? To what extent? How many? How much?

The numerical representation and analysis used in quantitative research

manipulate observations in order to describe and describe the phenomena that
observations are a reflection of. It's utilized in physics, among many other natural
and social sciences.
SYSTEMS PLUS COMPUTER COLLEGE
18SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

This is closely connected to the final part of the definition: analysis using
mathematically-based methods. In order to be able to use mathematically based
methods our data have to be in numerical form. This is not the case for qualitative
research.

Qualitative data are not necessarily or usually numerical, and therefore

cannot be analyzed using statistics. The last part of the definition refers to the use of
mathematically based methods, in particular statistics, to analyze the data. This is
what people usually think about when they think of quantitative research, and is
often seen as the most important part of quantitative studies. This is a bit of a
misconception. While it is important to use the right data analysis tools, it is even
more important to use the right research design and data collection instruments.
However, the use of statistics to analyze the data is the element that puts a lot of
people off doing quantitative research, because the mathematics underlying the
methods seems complicated and frightening. Therefore, because quantitative
research is essentially about collecting numerical data to explain a particular
phenomenon, particular questions seem immediately suited to being answered using
quantitative methods.
