At any time, it is not prudent and unnecessary for personnel to have their entire body within the confines of the bed Whenever 2 bed is being cleaned or serviced it should be unplugged from its power source. If service personnel need to get under the bed, the hilow portion must be blocked up as an added precaution. Preventive maintenance must be performed ennually to ensure all bed features axe functioning as originally designed. articular attention must be addressed on safety features including but not limited to: Sefety side latching mechanisms. Caster braking systems. Frayed electrical cords and components. All controls return to off or neutral position when released. - Controle or cabling entanglement in safety sides of bed nechanisns . ————— ORDERING SERVICE PARTS There are several ways to order service parts from #ill-Rom. One is to contact your local Hill-Rom Senior Account Executive. Another is to phone the Hill-Rom Company "Customer Service Department" direct. Please have the hospital purchase order number available when ordering parts. For hardware items, we normally require 24 hours to process service orders. For wood parts, however, it will take somewhat longer due to the fact, that we rarely stock wood parts (finished). Therefore, 4 to 5 weeks is a more realistic time span to consider when ordering replacement wood parts. We normally ship service orders by UPS. However, we will ship air or any other way you would like us to ship. We suggest a minimum of $40.00 when placing orders for service parts. This will help to prevent an increase in the cost of processing your service order. USING THE PARTS LIST The eleven cravings immediately following the index are exploded views of different areas of the bed. They are drawn this way to make it easy for you to identity parts. With a particular part in mind, locate it on one of the exploded view drawings. Locate the balloon that corresponds to your part or to a dotted line that surrounds yours and other parts.‘ Inside the balloon is an item number that can be found on the list of item numbers immediately following the drawings. Next to the item numbers you will find the part number and the description of the part you have in mind. EXAMPLE: If you are looking for the part number of the one piece cable assembly for the locking base system, find the base drawing, pege 1, locate the cable assembly, and then the associated item number, 28. Look this item number up in the List of item numbors, and you will find the part number is order for a xeplacement cable assembly. “As a convenience to our customers, Hill-Rom provides "Service Assemblies", which is a group of parts sold under one part number. We indicate these "Service Assemblies" with a dotted line around the group of parts on the drawings. Page 26 CENTRA BED EXCHANGE PROGRAM - MOTORS AND PRINTED CTRCOIT BOARDS Some or our customers, for one reason or another, choose not to repaix defective motors and printed circuit boards, For these customers, Hill-Rom provides an Out of Warzanty Exchange Program. Patient Controls - Patient operation of the various functions of this bed ‘are accomplished by moans of low voltage finger touch owitehing located in a convenient fixed position at both sides of the bed. These patient controls are affixed with the movable head section to give easy access as well as visual contact with the head end knee operating button, irrespective of the position of the head section elevation. These low voltage pationt controls are electrically interlocked to prevent electrical damage to the motor caused by contradictory direction signalling to the motor. The hilow low voltage electricel controls are located within easy reach of the patient and in a position for visual contact and operation by nursing personnel, doctors, etc., attending to the patient. () Head Mead section operating controls are visually identifiable to the patient by international symbols and contain a momentary type low voltage switching identified for elevation and a separate momentary type switch identified for down travel of the head section. A guage indicating the degree of head elevation is located on both sides of the bed readily visible to operating personnel. (2) Knee ‘The knee Lift patient controls are readily visible to the patient and likewise identified by international symbols and contata 2 momentary type ewitch for the up travel of the knee identified as suck and a separate switch identified for the low positioning of che knees. The patient has the capability of raising the knee section to a full up 45° angle or to a full flat position and this feature is to be an overriding function that can be acquired even though the bed has been positioned in sutomatic contour. As prescribed by attending physician, this bed has the capabilities of locking out the knee lift, and this lockout is located at the foot end of the bed which takes any further control of the knees away from the bed patient operating controls leested at the side of the bed. a) low The hilow controls are pictorielly labelled to indicate their fumction, are in immediate visuel contact with the nurse and contain a momentary type "up" switch "down" switch, Finished Motal Parts A, Gleaning ~ All surfaces prior to finishing are cleaned and conditioned to insure chemicaily closn and grease free surfaces and to provide a corrosion inhibiting surface on which to powder coat. Minish - After cleaning, all surfaces are coated with an epoxy powder. The coating is baked on for a minimum of 28 minutes at 350° F., or for an equivalent period at a higher or lower temperature. The coating is applied to produce a final, smooth, uniform surface without runs, wrinkles, or grit. The color of the coating is taupe. The finished coating thickness is a minimum of .001". Additional. A. ¥iaal Asmesble = The bed de en¢ineeted so that the Eleel assenbly of all verte is complete and tested at the factory. Factory Test - Bach bed is factory tested for complete operation with and without Toad, Each bed 4s tested for insulation intogrity and micro leakage currents. Each bed must indicate less than 35 micro anperage leakage current ungrounded, before shipment. Page 32 (Continued on following page) CENTRA BED C. UL Lipting ~The CENTRA bed conforms to the standards of UL #544 in regards to electrical hazards, fire and casualty hazards, including its use with oxyaen administering equipment, AUTOMATIC CONTOUR Every GENTRA bed has a feature called automatic contour that raises the kuce section of the bed a full 15° automatically when the head suction ic raised, The purpose of this feature is to prevent patients from sliding to the foot end of the bed when the head section is raised. This feature is controlled by means of limit owitches. [In the event automatic contour is not wanted, a knee lockout switch lecated in the nurse control panel can be used to turn it off. Hovever, this switch also eliminates use of the knee function independently. You can aiso temporarily disable the function by simultaneously depressing the head up and kmee dova switches on the sideguard. CHNTRA beds have bayonet type bed end mountinge, The bed ende simply slide down on two vertical posts 2t each corner of the bed. The bed ends are not secured in place so removal is just a matter of lifting them vertically off the posts. Tf dt becomes necessary to replace an eatire bed end, please refer to "CENTRA BED PARTS DRAWINGS AND PARTS LISI” for the correct part oumber. When ordering, you will elso need to apecify the color of the HPL decorator strip. If this is not known, please send a two or three inch square of the old EPL strip for color matching. ENVIRO-CARE COMPATABILITY ‘The CENTRA series beds are fully compatible with Enviro-Care if they have the model 284B cane bumpers attached to the base section of the bed. (See, "CANE BUMPER ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS - 2843" for identification of the cane bumpers.) Model 818C bumpers, which are also available on some CENTRA series beds, are not compatible with Enviro~Care. | WATER NATTRESS USAGE ON ELECTRIC BEDS The excessive weight associated with water mattresses puts an undue stress on noter drives. In most cases the patient's weight plus the water mattress weight exceeds the recommended bed capacity. Even more important is the fact that water mattresses are subject to rupture which vould allow large amounts of water to come in contact with the electrical components of the bed. We feel the possi- bility of rupture to be @ serious problem that the hospital would not want to be responsible for. Page 39 CENTRA SED PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE The Centra bed mast have an effective maintenance program. We recommend that you perform preventive maintenance and testing for Joint Commission Accreditation Hospitals Organization (JCAHO) annually. This not only msets JCAHO requirements, but will help to ensure a long and productive life for the bed. This will help minimize down time due to excessive wear failures. he preventive maintenance schedule that follows is intended to guide a technician through a normal preventive maintenance procedure on the Centra bed. Check each item on the schedule and make any necessary adjustments during the maintenance process. The preventive maintenance schedule is intended to be used in conjunction with the preventive maintenance checklist following it. This checkliet is designed to keep a running history of problems and subsequent repair costs for one individual bed. However, the hospital can modify this checklist or invent another to fit their needs. Keeping close records and maintaining the beds are two good ways of reducing downtime and at the same time, keeping the nursing staff happy and efficient.
