•The aims and objectives of this unit is to:
1) Introduce emerging technology trends and their impact on
everyday life in society.
2) Study emerging technology growth, incremental development

and ultimately disruptiveness.
3) Explain how critical emerging technology is to humanity's future

and examine the roles they play for good or evil, as well as social
and ethical issues related to their use

EMERGING TECHNOLOGICAL TRENDS DEFINITION:-
•New technologies currently being developed or will be developed in the

next 5 to 10 years
•Still in the emergence phase thus somewhat uncertain and ambiguous

CHARACTERISTICS OF EMERGING TECHNOLOGICAL TRENDS:-

•Radical novelty
•Relatively fast growth
•Coherence (DEVELOPERS and USERS all envision the same use)
•Prominent impact
•Uncertainty and ambiguity

WHAT IS A TREND?
•A trend can be defined as:-
1 A general direction in which something is developing or changing
2. Can be upward or downward
WHAT IS SOCIETY?
•Society can be defined as the aggregate of people living together in a
more or less ordered community
•WHAT IS DISRUPTION?
A process whereby an entrant (smaller company with fewer resources) is
able to successfully challenge an incumbent (established businesses)
