Task 2
Rate laws and kinetic expressions

NOTE: This challenge should be finished for the next Wednesday 22th march at 10:00pm and it

will be made by groups. The codes should be made in Matlab or Phyton. All points should be

analyzed from a chemical engineering point of view.

1. The next reactions are function of the time and they are carried out in a reactor batch. The

reactions occur in the liquid phase and the volume is constant. Then you should:

1. To Write all equations of the system

2. To obtain the concentration profile

3. What is the time for obtaining the maximum concentration of F?

4. What is the appropriate time for the reactor for obtaining G?

A+B k1 C +D (1)

A+C k2 E (2)

2. Write the rate law for the reaction 2A + B kA C if the reaction is:.

• Second order in B and overall third order

• Zero order in A and first order in B

• Zero order in both A and B

• First order in A and overall zero order

3. The kinetic constants for the reaction in gas phase H2 + I2 k 2HI, at several temperatures

given in table 1. (Use least squares for calculating the parameters of the line).

Table 1: Data for gas reaction

10x3K (dcm3 *s/mol) 0.54 2.5 14 25 64
T (K) 599 629 666 683 700

4. The reaction 2DI k D2 + I2 has k = 1.2x10−3 dcm3 /(mol ∗ s) at 660 K and Ea = 177 KJ/mol.

Calculate k at 720 K for this reaction .
