My Covid Experience

Coronavirus disease is defined as an illness caused by a novel coronavirus now called

severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2; formerly called 2019-ncov),
which was first identified amid an outbreak of respiratory illness cases in Wuhan City, Hubei,
China. It was initially reported to the WHO on December 31, 2019. On January 30, 2020, the
WHO declared the Covid-19 as a global pandemic, its first such designation since declaring
H1N1 influenza a pandemic in 2009.

In Malaysia, the government has employed restrictions to the people in different phases
in overcoming the pandemic. The Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin announced
Movement Control Order (MCO) began on 18 March until 26 April 2020. During this period,
everyone had to stay at home to break the chain of covid-19 contagiousness. Malaysians were
required to stay at home if they didn’t have any reasonable agenda or purpose to go out. After
that, the government enforced Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO). At this time, only
a person in a family was allowed to go out to buy their necessities. Later, the restriction is
continued with Restricted Movement Control Order. It was enforced for certain areas identified
as red zone. In this zone, no one was allowed to go in or out of the zone. The basic necessities
were supplied by the government at certain points. Currently,Recovery Movement Control Order
is enforced.

Up to this day, everyone must avoid crowded places, confined space and close
conversations. We also must avoid any contact with other people such as the practice of hand
shaking, practice correct coughing and sneezing etiquette and always put on a face mask while in
crowded places. Besides, Malaysians are encouraged to download MySejahtera application,
which is developed to help the people of Malaysia to perform self-assessment to determine the
risk of covid-19 contagiousness. We can easily use our cell phones to access the application and
scan the barcode provided everywhere we go.

As a student, I am so sad because the school is close. Hence, I can’t learn in school as
usual and I can’t meet my teachers and friends as often as before. However, my teachers still
communicate with us, the students via social media like WhatsApp, Google Classroom, Google
Forms, and many more. We use various digital learning platforms everyday. It is a new
experience for me to study and learn trough this medium. In addition, this experience helps to
improve my ICT skills.

We have to express our gratitude to all the frontliners for their sacrifice in protecting us
from the virus. While they are on the job, the doctors and the nurses must always put on personal
protecting equipment like mask and gloves to protect themselves. They are working for hundreds
of hours since the outbreak just to keep us safe. They have to stay at work for us without taking a
break, so we must stay at home for them in return. Personally, I want to express a special thank
to the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin, the Defence Minister, Dato Seri Ismail Sabri
and the Deputy General of Health Ministry, Datuk Doktor Noorhisham for their great services.

Finally, I hope the covid-19 will disappear as soon as possible so that we can live happily
like before. However, new norm life style is a must to continue to protect ourselves from any
disease caused by the virus. Malaysians have to stay strong and united during this time as we
can’t afford to lose our focus at time like this.
