Abstract
Conformity in Psychology may relate to the adherence to a specific group’s behavior patterns
where an individual is a member. It typically involves general and various notions, including
manners, ethics, opinions, principles, and others. However, this study only focused on the
perceptual conformity of the participants. The researcher aimed to discover their behaviors using
a straightforward visual comparison task in a controlled laboratory setting. The participants were
placed in the observation room together with the seven accomplices of the researcher. The
participants were asked to observe and compare two cards with straight lines. They then
individually answered which of the lines were of the same length. Experiments were conducted
numerous times on the participants, and the results indicated that most (approximately 75%)
imitated the group’s decision at least once despite the inaccuracy of the responses. These
findings suggest that social group pressures may affect an individual’s conformity, unheeding
incorrect judgment.
