INTRODUCTION TO 8 PARTS OF SPEECH
Every word is a part of speech. The term “Part of Speech” refers to the role a word plays in a sentence.

Let see together 8 parts of Speech.

1.Nouns- A noun is a word for a person, place, things and etc...

Exercise 1. Write 15 Concrete Nouns and 5 Abstract nouns.


Articles

Articles are words that define a noun as specific or unspecific.

Definite article

the

Example- Please give me the spoon. The big spoon!

Indefinite article

a, an

Example- Please give me a spoon.


2.Pronouns- A pronoun is a word used in place of a noun.

3.Adjectives- An adjective modifies or describes a noun or pronoun.
Example- beautiful, awesome, terrible etc.

Article (a, an, the) +Adjective +Noun

Example- a beautiful lady, a long bridge, a boring class

Exercise

Write 20 meaningful nouns.


4.Verb

A verb expresses action or being. There is a main verb and sometimes one or more helping
verbs.

Example of main verbs- Do, Play, Study, …

Example of helping verbs- Model Verbs (will, would, shall, should, can, could, may, might,
must, etc. …), be, have & do

5. Adverbs

An adverb modifies or describes a verb.

Example- gently, carefully, clearly…


6. Prepositions

A preposition is a word placed before a noun, pronoun or phrase to show direction, location, time,
place.

Example- in, by, about, until, after, …

7. Conjunction

A conjunction joins word, phrases or clauses.

Example- and, but, because, after, …

8. Interjection

An interjection is a word used to express emotion.

Example- Oh! … Wow! … Oops!
