Completion devices in Petrel – Casing, Liner, Tubing and Packer

Equipment data base updated with different grades and

manufactures for different casing, liner and tubing sizes. Bottom
depth of tubing beside depth and height of packer can be edited.
Completion devices in Petrel – Perforation

Some specific properties such as Skin and

Top and bottom depth beside date of
diameter for perforation are defined in “Well

bore properties” tab
Completion devices in Petrel – Squeeze
A remedial cementing operation designed to force cement into leak path in wellbore tubulars. The required
squeeze pressure is achieved by carefully controlling pump pressure. Squeeze cementing operations may be
performed to repair poor primary cement jobs, isolate perforations or repair damaged casing or liner.

Relevant connections will be closed in COMPDAT

Completion devices in Petrel – Plug-back
Cement plugs are used for a variety of applications including hydraulic isolation, provision
of secure platform and in window-milling operation for sidetracking a new wellbore.

Relevant connections will be closed in COMPDAT

Completion devices in Petrel – Stimulation
Stimulation is a treatment performed to restore or enhance the productivity of a well. Treatments divided
into two main groups of “hydraulic fracturing” and “matrix” treatments. Fracturing treatments are
performed above the fracturing pressure of the reservoir and creates a conductive flow path between the
reservoir and wellbore. Matrix treatments are performed below reservoir fracture pressure and generally
are designed to restore the natural permeability.

Completion devices in Petrel – Gauge
Controls if the gauge will be used to mark the BHP reference depth on case export, for
the corresponding well flow and timestep. This depth will be placed in 5th item of
WELSPECS keyword. (Default value is depth of mid of upper perforated cell)
Completion devices in Petrel – Characterization of data from welltest
Permeability*length (KH), Skin factor and well Productivity index are main parameters which are
obtained from well test analysis. These parameters are important for characterization of wellbore and
reservoir properties and have significant effect on well production performance.
Completion devices in Petrel – Heater (for thermal simulations)
Heater used in a thermal simulation. A heater completion exports the HEATER and/or HEATERL
keywords. These two keywords are used for characterization of position and properties of one or more
heater connection. If the connection is in local grid, then HEATERL keyword will be used.
Completion devices in Petrel – Electric Submersible Pump
The Electrical Submersible Pumps, typically called ESP, is an efficient and reliable artificial lift method
for lifting moderate to high volumes of fluids from wellbores. There are two main categories of pumps
available as completion device items in Petrel. Pump (that is assigned to all kinds of pumps, including
chopper, centrifugal, slurry,…) and ESP. Both have their relevant settings for special properties.
Completion devices in Petrel – Flow control devices
Flow control devises essentially impose a pressure drop between the sand face and tubing in order to control the well. Petrel
can model a range of different types of Inflow Control Devices (ICDs) and Flow Control Valves (FCV) corresponding to the
types of flow control devices that the simulators can simulate. In order to simulate flow control devices, you must use a
multi-segmented (MSW) flow model. Petrel also allows you to model this pressure drop by the use of a hydraulic (VFP) table
rather than the built-in simulator equations if you prefer. Tables of pressure drop against flow rate for specific phases can be
obtained from the device manufacturers and converted into hydraulics tables.
