1. What is Social Control?


- The social sciences include a notion known as social control. According
to this definition, social control refers to a set of social norms and laws
that bind people to accepted behavior and the usage of formalized
systems.
2. Differentiate informal control and formal control. Cite 3 examples each.
- According to DifferenceBetween.Net formal control takes the form of
being written and official, such as in the case of rules and laws, while
informal controls are unwritten, as in traditions, norms, and values.
- Examples of formal control are policing, judicial sanctions, and
regulatory policies.
- Examples of informal social controls are socialization, praise and
compliments, and ridicule and gossip.
3. What do social control make us do?
- Social control is any of the means that society uses to regulate human
behavior and usually limits the action of social control towards the
control of deviant and dangerous behavior.
4. Which type of social control is more effective in regulating the actions of
the members of society?
- Informal control is more effective in terms of regulating the behavior of
members in a society because it is deeply rooted in their identity which
has a personal impact, unlike formal control which revolves around
external regulations.
5. When is conforming to societal control beneficial and when is it not?
- Conforming to societal control can be beneficial in a way that you can fit
in a certain group and it will promote unity and peace, however, it can
also be harmful if it requires following rules and norms that is against on
someone’s personal beliefs
