Letter to the Reader

I am writing to you today to discuss the topic of work immersion, an important aspect of

education and career development.

Work immersion is a program that allows students to gain practical, hands-on experience in

a real work environment. It is a way for students to apply the knowledge and skills they have

learned in the classroom to real-world situations. Work immersion can take many forms, such as

internships, apprenticeships, job shadowing, or other work-based learning opportunities.

The benefits of work immersion are numerous. For one, it allows students to explore

different career paths and industries, helping them to make informed decisions about their future

career goals. It also helps students to develop important skills such as communication, teamwork,

and problem-solving, which are highly valued by employers.

In conclusion, work immersion is an important part of education and career development. It

provides students with valuable hands-on experience, helps them to develop important skills, and

can lead to future job opportunities. I encourage you to take advantage of work immersion

programs whenever possible.

Sincerely,

Jose Fernando De Jesus

appreciation and gratitude. Your contributions have made a lasting impact on my personal and

professional development.
Introduction

Work immersion is a program that offers students the opportunity to experience a real work

environment and gain practical, hands-on experience in their chosen field of study. It is a form of

experiential learning that helps students develop the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in

their future careers. Work immersion can take many forms, such as internships, apprenticeships,

job shadowing, or other work-based learning opportunities. This type of learning experience is

becoming increasingly popular in educational institutions as it helps students bridge the gap

between classroom learning and real-world experiences. Work immersion not only helps students

gain valuable practical experience, but it also provides them with an opportunity to explore different

career paths and industries, and develop critical skills such as teamwork, communication, and

problem-solving.
Objective of the Work Immersion

The objective of work immersion is to provide students with practical experience and

exposure to real-world work environments related to their chosen career paths. Work immersion

programs aim to bridge the gap between academic learning and the demands of the workforce by

allowing students to apply their knowledge and skills in real-life situations.

The primary goal of work immersion is to help students develop essential workplace

competencies such as communication, problem-solving, teamwork, time management, and

adaptability. It also helps them gain a deeper understanding of their chosen career paths, allowing

them to make informed decisions about their future.

Moreover, work immersion programs also provide students with the opportunity to build

professional networks and relationships, which can be invaluable for securing future employment

or pursuing further education and training. By participating in work immersion, students can gain a

competitive edge in the job market and enhance their employability prospects.

In conclusion, work immersion is a valuable experience for students that helps them to

develop practical skills, knowledge, and attitudes that are essential for success in the workforce. It

provides an opportunity for students to experience the real-world demands of their chosen

profession, and to apply the theories and concepts learned in the classroom to practical situations.

Work immersion also serves as a bridge between the academic and professional worlds, providing

students with a better understanding of the relationship between their academic coursework and

the practical applications of their profession.

History

DERS is a division of FEMA in the United States, it is unlikely that DERS would have played

a direct role in the history of the naval base in Sangley Point.

However, the Philippine government has its own emergency response agencies that may have

provided services at Sangley Point. For example, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has a

Special Action Force (SAF) that is responsible for providing high-risk law enforcement and public

safety services, including responding to emergencies and disasters.

The history of emergency response services at Sangley Point would likely involve the roles

and actions of these and other Philippine government agencies, as well as the U.S. Navy and

other military organizations that have operated at the base over the years.
Mission

The mission of the Directorate Emergency Response Services (DERs) may vary depending
on the specific organization or government agency, but generally, it is to provide timely and
effective emergency response services to protect lives, property, and the environment during
emergencies and disasters.

The following are some of the key missions of DERs:

Preparedness: To develop and implement emergency response plans, procedures, and training
programs to ensure readiness to respond to a wide range of emergencies and disasters.

Response: To respond to emergencies and disasters promptly, effectively, and efficiently by

deploying trained personnel, equipment, and resources to the affected areas.

Mitigation: To identify and mitigate potential hazards and risks in the community through risk
assessments, hazard mapping, and other prevention measures.

Recovery: To support the recovery and reconstruction of communities affected by disasters,

including providing relief and support services to affected individuals and families.

Coordination: To coordinate with other agencies, organizations, and stakeholders involved in

emergency management and response to ensure a coordinated and efficient response to
emergencies.

Overall, the mission of DERs is to protect the community by providing effective emergency
response services that minimize the impact of disasters and emergencies on lives, property, and
the environment.

Vision

The vision of emergency response services, in general, is to build a safer and more resilient

society by providing efficient and effective emergency response services. This vision may include:

•Ensuring that emergency response services are accessible to all individuals and

communities, regardless of location, socioeconomic status, or other factors.

•Encouraging collaboration and cooperation between emergency response agencies, as

well as with other organizations and stakeholders, to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated

response to emergencies.

•Continuously improving emergency response services through innovation, training, and

research.

•Supporting community preparedness and resilience by promoting emergency

preparedness education and resources, as well as engaging with communities to understand their

unique needs and perspectives.

•Providing a compassionate and empathetic response to those affected by emergencies,

and ensuring that individuals receive the care and support they need to recover from these events.

Overall, the vision of emergency response services is to build a society that is better prepared to

respond to emergencies and to support those affected by these events. This vision is critical to

promoting public safety and well-being, and to building strong and resilient communities.

Services

The vision of emergency response services is to create safe, resilient, and prepared

communities that can respond effectively to emergencies and crises. This includes promoting a

culture of safety and preparedness, ensuring access to high-quality emergency response services,

and developing partnerships and collaborations with other organizations and agencies.

The specific objectives of emergency response services may vary depending on the needs

and priorities of the community. Some of the common goals of emergency response services in

support of this vision include:

•Increasing community awareness and preparedness for emergencies •Strengthening

partnerships and collaborations with other organizations and agencies

•Enhancing the quality and effectiveness of emergency response services •Ensuring that

emergency response services are accessible to all members of the community

•Promoting ongoing training and professional development for emergency response

personnel Overall, the vision of emergency response services is to build strong and resilient

communities that can respond effectively to emergencies, and that are better able to protect

themselves and their neighbors during times of crisis.

First day of my immersion, The first day of my immersion in Sangley Point Cavite City, first

of all I was excited because it was my first time to enter the naval base and of course I was also

nervous haha. Before we started going to the naval base, I arranged the things I would wear and

bring. 3am when we woke up in the morning to cook food and It's annoying because the faucet

doesn't drip. After we got dressed, we started walking towards the naval base because it wasn't

far. On my first day there, it went well because our teachers were there who guided us so we knew

what to do. Next, after lunch with my friends, the navy officers came to orient us so that we know

the rules and regulations inside the naval base. We were also shown clips that they made so that

we could have knowledge of what a navy really is. After the orientation, our navy officers moved to

assign us to each department. I went to the DERS Department and I met Sir, Jorge Delos Reyes

who is my supervisor. I'm happy because the navy officer in my department was very kind to me,

he even mentioned that we could sleep in an office because it was no longer used, he also let us

use their internet. They treat us well and right and equally that's why i should do all the best i can

do to
March 1, 2023

Second day of our immersion, 7:20 am when we gathered to find out if we were complete

and so we could start going to our department. 7:35 when I got to my department and our

commander officer wasn't there yet so I went into the office and cleaned for a while. 8:20 when

other DERS duty officers arrived at our office, they were happy because they saw that the front of

the office was clean. We just observe what they do and they explain what they do to us so we

know what to do. They explained to us their duties or what DERS does and its responsibilities. The

officers treated us well and sometimes they talked to us, I was lucky because I was assigned to

them to help.

March 2, 2023

. Third day of my immersion, Sir Laseleta gathered us because it was calisthenics day, he

taught us some martial arts and after we go our departments and we didn't do much and we just

observed them.

March 3, 2023

March 4, 2023

Fifth day of my immersion, we just observe again because our officer said that there was

not much to do and we just do 5S/cleaning before we leave the office.

March 9, 2023

Sixth day of my immersion gave me some knowledge because they allowed me to observe

they're drilling. Sir, Delos Reyes said that the DERS Department will be busy on March 9, because
they will have an earthquake drill which is the DERS department will participate in this drill. It was

8am in the morning when I entered our department and I found it empty so I quickly said goodbye

to sir ligaya if I could stay in the department and he agreed. It was noon when Sir Delos Reyes

came and told me that there was an earthquake drill and he would take me with him to participate.

March 10, 2023

Seventh day of my immersion, I arrived at work at 7:40 in the morning. Because they

claimed there was not much to do, we were just observed as they went about their business.

Additionally, they assert that they are the only ones who can and should perform the task. We

simply watched what they were doing and questioned them about other subjects we were curious

in, and they gave us accurate answers. Following that, we cleaned the workplace before going to

Sir Ligaya to get his signature on my dtr and leaving for home.

March 13, 2023

office was then cleaned before we left for home.

Observations and Insights

I had the chance to observe and learn in the Directorate Emergency Response Services

(DERS) Department during my Work Immersion program. In my observations, the location

promoted learning and offered guests a welcoming and relaxing setting. A friendly atmosphere was

also created by the officers on duty's positive relationships with the neighboring citizens.

I noticed that the atmosphere of this office was much more welcoming compared to others I

had previously visited. This was one of the best features that I particularly appreciated.

Participating in the Work Immersion Program was an amazing opportunity that exposed me to new

knowledge and experiences that I didn't expect. The time I spent in the program was definitely

worth it. In general, I was very pleased with the program and I saw for myself how beneficial it can

be for all graduating students.

Some of us must immediately enter the workforce because not all students can afford to

attend college. These students receive some of the knowledge and skills they need for their future

careers through the Work Immersion program. In terms of my own development, I discovered how

to communicate with people more comfortably and get over my social anxiety. I am appreciative of

this program because it has taught me many valuable things and given me a ton of information.
Reflection

It's wonderful to happened that my Work Immersion experience was positive, despite initial

anxiety. Overcoming my fear of social interaction is a noteworthy achievement and demonstrates

personal growth. It's also great that I found the work enjoyable, even though it was tiring. Learning

how to treat people with equal respect regardless of their age is a valuable lesson that will benefit

you in the future.

The fact that i able to learn so much new information in such a short period of time is

equally commendable. It demonstrates initiative and a drive to learn to be able to put what I

learned to use and pinpoint areas where you needed to improve.

Overall, it sounds like i had a successful work immersion experience and gained valuable

skills and knowledge. I'll keep up the good work, and continue to challenge myself to learn and

grow in new situations.

Work Immersion Highlights

It's wonderful that the Work Immersion experience is active and enjoyable. It appears that

the large number of consumers has helped me improve my abilities and boost my confidence,

which is wonderful. True, I appreciate what we're doing, and it's simpler to stay motivated and

interested. You're also less likely to get bored or fatigued. It's great that I enjoyed working with you

and learned from the process while also finding enjoyment in your work. I have a positive outlook

and look for opportunities to learn and hone my talents.

Problem Encountered

During my work immersion experience, I faced several challenges that tested my resilience.

Firstly, being away from my family was difficult as I wasn't used to being apart from them, and I

missed them dearly. To cope with this, I would go home every weekend to be with them. Secondly,

getting along with my dorm mates was a challenge as we had different personalities, but I learned

to be patient and manage my relationships with them. Thirdly, I had to be mindful of my daily

expenses as I knew my family had financial constraints, and I had to save wherever I could.

Fourthly, commuting from my dorm to my workplace was time-consuming and tiring due to the

distance. Lastly, I struggled with staying focused on my remaining activities in the dorm as there
were distractions. Despite these challenges, I was determined not to waste my parents' sacrifices

and expenses in supporting me in pursuing my goals.

Suggestions and Recommendations

Work immersion is an excellent opportunity for individuals to gain hands-on experience in a

particular industry or field. Here are some recommendations for making the most out of work

immersion:

1. Set clear goals: Before starting your work immersion, you should have a clear idea of what you

want to achieve. Identify your goals and expectations and communicate them with your supervisor

or mentor.

2. Be proactive: Take initiative in your work immersion experience. Ask questions, seek out new

opportunities, and show a willingness to learn.

3. Observe and learn: Pay attention to the daily routines and practices of the workplace. Observe

the behavior of professionals in the industry and take note of their work ethic and attitudes.

4. Seek feedback: Don't be afraid to ask for feedback from your supervisor or mentor. This will help

you improve your performance and gain valuable insight into your strengths and weaknesses.

5. Reflect and evaluate: Take time to reflect on your experience and evaluate what you have

learned. Use this knowledge to set new goals and make plans for your future career path.

Remember that work immersion is an excellent opportunity to learn and grow, and by following

these recommendations, you can make the most out of your experience.
