Now that you have analyzed the important philosophies and theories on education, develop your own
philosophies of education stating what you think the purpose of schooling/education is; how the subjects should
be taught; what do you need to know about students to be able to teach them. Include your idea of a good
teacher. Formulate one which you think will be your guiding light in your future career.
My Own Philosophy of Education
Education is a planned activity with a certain goals in mind, such as knowledge transmission or the
development of skills and characters. These objectives might include the growth of comprehension, reason,
kindness, and honesty. However, in this 21st century, we all know that education is necessary for all the people.
Where they say that education is that key to success. Education is the most powerful tool in order for someone
to become successful in life. Considering that if someone finished his or her studies, he or she will be given a
chance to get some opportunities of getting stable jobs. Moreover, the purpose of education is not just by getting
a stable job in the future but also for the students to be more social active, learn to have respect, and be humane.
We all know teachers are not only teaching subject matter but also values that each students must possess. I
believe that attitude comes first. They say, what is the use of having a degree because you finished your study if
you act arrogant and seems like you are not educated.
However, my own philosophy of education is experienceism. Why teach? This philosophy of education
contends that teachers teach learners to gain knowledge and moral values through experiences. Teachers should
give value to the experiences and interests of students. What to teach? The emphasis on this are the experiences
that students had experienced in order for them to gain knowledge and moral values. How to teach? The
classrooms are “learner-centered”. Teachers allow the interests and experiences of students in order for the
students to learn faster considering that they can relate to the topic. As a good teacher, we must become
considerate about our students because we don’t know what our students were going through. We try to be nice
to them and feel them they are loved.
If the topic is relatable the students can easily understand the topic. Therefore, in order for the students to
learn, teachers must give values to the experiences of the students. Teachers should give real life scenario
examples. However, education is necessary for us to become successful. And as what Dr. Jose Rizal said, “Ang
kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan.”
