« The symbolic place where the city, democracy and politics meet is the public
space. The diversity of objectives is the basis of the public space as a guarantee of
real plurality, because nobody is in a privileged position. The current questioning of
the public space is accompanied and even motivated by concern about the state
of democracy ».

Josep Ramoneda,
Spanish journalist, philosopher and writer.

« The project allows each participant to understand that the Other, the different,
with whom he or she is studying is not - because of his or her difference - a terrible
obstacle but a formidable asset ».

RENCONTRES EUROPÉENNES 2022

It was really motivating for me to see the big It was the chance to share common hickups
(yet not complete) team of the project! and feel I was not the only one thinking «this
could work differently» and see with retros-
pective the effort made to make it possible.
It’s been energizing to get to know all of the
members around europe and it’s been a cru-
cial healing moment for what went wrong. It’s
been very touching and enriching.

Very interesting and relevant topics are dis-

cussed. Very good organisation. Beautiful
exemple of cooperative learning in multilin-
gual groups. From a pedagogical-didactical
perspective i can only be positive about it.

c The Beit Project - RAPPORT ANNUEL 2021-2022

I feel happy to meet my colleagues from different cities, it is
beautiful and easier to know that other people are working
towards similar goals facing similar issues- problems d that we
are all together on the project. Also i learnt a lot from works-
hops, met wonderful people and ideas. I love the well orga-
nised meetings and hospitality were key elements as well!

The complexity and many aspects of the Beit

The project creates and gives the space for discussion,

raises concerns and creates a safe framework for the
externalization of children’s personal concerns.

As a facilitator of the Beit project I went through many sta-

tes. I started off feeling quite stressed over the idea that I

have to “tick all the boxes” and make this experience the
most unique. However, as the sessions went by I realised
that as we ask from the students to be honest and hu-
man and discover their own strengths, I had to somehow
do the same. So, I forgot about any pressure and started
enjoying meeting the students, talking to them, exploring
the history of the surroundings and accompany them in
this beautiful journey that is called Beit Project. I indeed
learned a lot from the students and the co-facilitators and
I remembered that an inclusive society can’t be created
if we are not firstly accepting fully ourselves.

A QUESTION OBJECT

The history of the chosen urban her-

itage site, linked to issues of discrim-
ination or solidarity in the past, al-
lows raising awareness on subjects
directly linked to the participants’
intercultural experience of the city.

In each site, a process of intercul-

tural dialogue and common inter-
pretation of heritage will lead par-
ticipants to formulate in their words,
the main questions, they under-
stood from the remembrance plac-
es they’ve been through. These
questions will then be transmitted to
the participants of the next city by
the form of a “question-object”, like
a Russian doll in which the different
questions are overlaid, as well as by

videos made by all young partici-
pants. Public presentations in each
city will enable a multiplying effect
toward heritage and citizenship or-
ganizations, as well as local policy
makers.

The question object takes the form

of a wooden suitcase that will trav-
el from city to city, and will be pre-
sented and completed at each fi-
nal presentation.
