Physical Computing Project

Grade-6 Term-1 (2023-2024)
Introduction to the Project - Smart Waste Management

Name: ________________________________ Class & Div: ________ Date: ____________

We, the builders of the future:

 Let us assume that students of IIS collaboratively build a scale model of a dream city which is
Smart, Sustainable and Green.
 Students apply the knowledge and skills gained in various subjects and technology tools to create
prototypes as solutions to real world problems.
 Students Make and Code a Smart Waste Management prototype to overcome the problem of
waste segregation.

About the Project:

The Physical computing project is based on the following Expo 2020 theme.
Sustainability Responsible Consumption & Production Waste Management
Students build a prototype of Smart Waste Management as a solution for achieving the sustainable
management and substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and
reuse.
To prevent the over exploitation of natural resources and protect human and environmental well-being.

Process of waste management:

We produce so many products and throw out so much every day that garbage and waste
disposal is turning into a major ecological nightmare. Mixed waste are segregated manually by humans

In waste management the “Waste Segregation” plays a vital role.

Garbage is classified into two categories of waste.

 Dry waste.
 Wet Waste.

TASK-1: Reflect on the image and answer the following questions.

1) How to effectively segregate these waste materials? What is the key idea on above image?

2) How to make it automated without human intervention?

3) Share your view on UAE’s program for Responsible Consumption and Production to achieve waste
segregation.

Technical Jargon

It's hard to imagine life before technology. What if you had to get through a day without the internet?
What about going on a road trip without Google Maps? That all probably sounds nearly impossible…

TASK-2:

Read the words and definitions. In the first column write the meaning in your own words and in second
column draw a picture of what it means to you.

1. Artificial Intelligence- Intelligence demonstrated by machines.

2.Innovation- New idea, new thinking of today, to solve yesterday’s problem for better tomorrow.

3. Prototype- First Model of the product.

4. Sustainability- An idea of human activity that supports the welfare of environment.

5. Automation- Technology by which a process or procedure is performed without human assistance.
