CAVITE MUTINY: Spanish Version

January 20, 1872

200 Filipino soldiers rise up against Spanish Colonial forces in Cavite arsenal.
Jose Montero y Vidal
Rafael Izqueirdo

Cavite mutiny is considered as a starting plot to deposed Spanish rulings. It's important to
acknowledge that the Spanish version of the Cavite Mutiny has its own unique perspective on the events
that transpired. According to this version, the mutineers were rebellious soldiers who aimed to overthrow
Spanish rule and establish an independent Philippine republic. The Spanish government used this
narrative to justify their harsh crackdown on Filipino nationalism and resistance movements. The Spanish
version of the mutiny ignores the fact that the Filipino people had been fighting for their independence
long before the mutiny occurred. The mutiny was just one of many resistance movements that the Filipino
people used to assert their rights and fight for their independence.
