your time and make the most out of every session. In this document, you’ll find all
the information you need to design your personalised study plan with
determination, certainty, and confidence.

What’s in this document?

Let’s go!

How much time do you need to spend on

studying?

This is one of the questions our students ask us most. And it’s an important
question without a doubt. But it’s also important to know or decide how often you
should ideally be studying.

How often you study will be key in your learning. It’s been proven that spending
too much time on something limits our ability to retain information. Therefore, we
recommend that you have short but regular study sessions throughout the week.
That way, you’ll be able to really take in and remember everything you learn in each
session and won’t forget it between study periods.

To clarify: the ideal amount of time per session is between 30 and 40 minutes and
we recommend you have at least 2 to 4 sessions per week. Remember, we’re
talking about ideals here. You’ll need to adapt these recommendations to the free
spots in your schedule and your needs. To sum up, the idea is: short and regular
sessions are better than sessions that are long and spaced-out.

Below you’ll see a table with the estimated amount of time you should spend on
each type of resource that you’ll find in the ABA English course:

Session Approximate amount of time

One course unit From 30 to 45 minutes

Group unit review class 60 minutes

Group conversation class 60 minutes

Microlesson From 5 to 10 minutes

Remember, different people will need different amounts of time and this depends
on lots of factors. In fact, even the same person may take a longer or shorter
amount of time depending on the unit, for example. This means that, for the
course and microlessons, the times mentioned above are estimations.

How long will it take to complete a level?

The answer to this question will always depend on the time you dedicate to
studying each week. In any case, here at ABA English we calculate that the
approximate but ideal time to complete a course level and properly take in its
content is three months. To complete the level in this time you’ll have to at least
do:

● 2 course units per week

● 1 group unit review class every 4 units ( 2 classes per month)

Although participating this amount is an estimate and you’ll need to adapt it to

your day-to-day life, please bear in mind that we don’t recommend you do many
more course units per week.

The ideal situation would be for you to do two units and spend your time on really
taking in the content. Take the units as many times as you need to, then take the
group unit review classes every 4 units and enjoy the group conversation classes
and microlessons in order to keep practising what you’ve learnt. If you are also able
to take private classes to really fine-tune what you’ve learnt, your progress will be
unbeatable.

Below you’ll find an example of a week-long study plan that could help you
complete a level in three months by maximising the resources that ABA English
has on offer and by coming into contact with the language on a daily basis.

Remember, this is only a suggestion for a full week. Now you know about all the
resources that are available to you, you’ll need to organise them and integrate
them into your weekly schedule, so that it’s the resources that fit into it and not
the other way around. We recommend you be realistic with your goals. It’s always
better to go from smaller to bigger.

To organise the resources in your schedule, we recommend that you follow this
order:

1. Decide which gaps in your schedule you want to dedicate to study sessions.
Remember, be realistic.

2. Start by adding the study sessions you’ll dedicate to the course to your
schedule.

3. Find your next group unit review class and book your spot on the day and
time that suits your best.

4. Decide whether you’d like to take a group conversation class. If so, add it to
your schedule too.

Once you’ve scheduled in the course sessions and classes, you’ll have a visual idea
of how many days a week you’ll be coming into contact with English. As we said at
the start, one of the keys to learning is staying in regular contact with English.
Therefore, microlessons are the perfect addition. They are short practice exercises
(lasting 5 to 10 minutes) that have been especially designed for mobile use and
which you can check out during your downtime throughout the day (on the way to
work, during your tea or coffee break, while you’re waiting for someone, etc.).

Lastly, remember that you can ask any questions you have to our team of certified
teachers here at ABA English. Your questions don’t have to be solely related to the
course content but can also be about the methodology, your study plan, etc.

Have a go at designing your study plan for the next few days. Don’t forget that ABA
English gives you all the flexibility you need to make this experience, your
experience.

Good luck!
