1 What was your first reaction to this artwork? Why do you think you had the
reaction?
My reaction to this artwork was impressive and nostalgic. It is impressive due to its vibrant colors
and details that makes the artwork eye-catching. Second, it is nostalgic because it reminds me of joy
when I buy ice cream from Manong. I think I had this reaction because the artwork shows the nostalgic
childhood memories of children plus the addition of vibrant colors that makes the artwork more
joyful.

What was happening in history when this artwork was made? How does that

The artwork was created in 2018, and thus reflects
urban culture in the Philippines. However, the practice of selling ice cream from carts in the streets
has a long history in the Philippines, dating back from the colonial period. Where they influence this
culture that builds our natural identity. Understanding the artwork changes my perception towards
the artwork, as it can reflect the poverty issues in the Philippines, that's why it's has a nickname
called "Dirty ice cream".
