Abstract

The term diaspora refers to the movement of a group of people to new lands for settlement.

Many people suffer from identity disputes due to their presence in new regions, including

Indian immigrants. In her works, Jhumpa Lahiri one of the most famous Indian American

authors, portrays the Bengali immigrant experience, which contains both the concept of

being uprooted from one's homeland and the meaning of seeking a place in the host

country. The current paper focuses on Lahiri's novel 'The Lowland' and reflects upon the

dilemmas and conflicts that come with being part of diaspora.

Keywords: diaspora, immigrants, uprooted.
