Assessment Event 2

Interview
Weighting: 25%

INSTRUCTIONS
Very often prior to being accepted by a university, it is necessary to undergo an interview in which
the interviewer will try to ascertain your suitability and preparedness to undertake the tertiary course
of your choice. You are going to take part in a mock interview.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS for the Interview

You must prepared:

 explain why you would like to study at the particular university


 talk about yourself – previous schooling and strengths and weaknesses
 be able to evaluate your own study skills and strategies in relation to being able to manage
independent learning
 discuss what you have learned about yourself, your learning process and your
responsibilities as a learner
 be able to talk about how you will be able to manage your time
 ask questions about the course you wish to enrol in.

Take care with your external presentation for the interview. Remember opinions are often based on
first impressions.

This assessment event will demonstrate your ability to:

 research university course options


 reflect on your study and learning skills
 prepare a C.V./Resume and a Personal Statement
 use effective interview skills.

The interview will be at least 10 minutes long, be no longer than 12 minutes and conducted in
English. Prior to your interview you must submit:

 Curriculum Vitae/Resume
This should include your schooling, subjects and grades, paid and unpaid employment, sports,
clubs etc. that you belong to, interests and achievements.

 Personal Statement about yourself


This should include brief details of your background and personality, why you are studying
the GAC. You should also say what course or university you wish to do and give reasons for
your selection.

The interviewer will refer to both these documents during the interview.

The interview must be video recorded.

UNIVERSITY RESEARCH AND KNOWLEDGE


5% Students must demonstrate:
 knowledge about the university and its courses
 rationale for choosing the course.
SELF REFLECTION AND EVALUATION
5% Students must be able to reflect on:
 own strengths and weaknesses
 personal motivation.
STUDY SKILLS AND STRATEGIES
Students must be able to discuss:
5%  how the knowledge from study skills has changed or affected their learning
 what kind of learner they are
 strategies they employ to study.
INDEPENDENT LEARNING
Students must be able to discuss their study skills and strategies in relation to independent learning, including:
5%  what they have learned about their own learning process from keeping their reflective learning journal
 their responsibilities as a learner
 their self-evaluation techniques.
TIME MANAGEMENT
Students must be able to discuss their implementation of time management techniques, particularly:
5%  organizing their study workload
 their experience of working with a semester planner document
 ability to keep to the planned stages of meeting deadlines for this semester of their GAC studies.
SPEAKING ABILITY
Students must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in spoken English, particularly in terms of:
 fluency
10%  communicative ability
 interactive ability (ability to respond to questions)
 accuracy (pronunciation, grammar)
 expressing opinions.
INTERVIEW SKILLS
Students will be given marks for:
5%  appropriate dress
 body language
 confidence.
CURRRICULUM VITAE AND PERSONAL STATEMENT
These must demonstrate:
 communicative ability
10%  fluency
 organization
 accuracy (grammar, spelling).

50%
TOTAL: FINAL MARK: /25%
