IV. PROCEDURES
REVIEW
 The teacher will conduct a board work to review the previous
lesson.
A. Reviewing the previous lesson
or presenting the new lesson Find the circumferences of the circle with the following radius.

1. 5 cm 3. 32 cm 5. 12 mm
2. 16 cm 4. 7 mm
B. Establishing a purpose for the  The students will answer the situation:
lesson
Cassy wants to know if the tablecloth that she wants to buy will fit their
round table in the dining room. The table’s radius is 40 cm. What is the
area of the tablecloth that will fit the round table?

What is being asked?

How will you find the area when the radius is given?
What should be the area of the tablecloth needed for the round table?

 The teacher will then present the objectives of the lesson.

Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the learner should be able to:
a. Find the given area of a given circle.

 The teacher will present another example

Carla has a circular pond in her yard. What is the area of the pond if its
radius is 4 meters?
C. Presenting examples/ instances
of the new lesson

AREA OF A CIRCLE

A circle can be cut into equal-sized sectors and arranged to resemble a

parallelogram. The height h of the parallelogram is equal to the radius r of
the circle, and the base b of the parallelogram is equal to one-half the
circumference C of the circle.

So the area of the parallelogram can be written as:

A = bh, or A = ½ Cr.
Since C = 2 π r, A = ½ (2 π r) = π r 2

practicing new skills #1
Additional Example: Finding the Area of a Circle

Find the area of the circle to the nearest tenth.

Use 3.14 for π .

A = π r2 Use the formula.

A = 3.14 ∙ 72 Substitute 7 for r.
A = 3.14 ∙ 49 Evaluate the power.
A = 153.86 Multiply.

The area of the circle is about 153.9cm 2.

REMEMBER
The order of operations calls for evaluating the
exponents before multiplying.

E. Discussing new concepts and TRY THIS:

answer.

of concepts and skills in daily The diameter of a tambourine is 10 inches. Find the area of its
living surface. Use π = 3.14.

abstractions about the lesson a. What is the formula to get the area of a circle?
b. What is the value of pi π ?
