With Love,

They say there is only one room that always has extra
space .That is the room of improvement! This couldn’t be truer
than in the field of magic! No matter how good a magician one is,
there is always room for improvement. I am sharing few tips and
ideas to improve one's act that will not only take it to the next
level but also give a wonderful feel-good factor and a high degree
of self-satisfaction . The cardinal truth is that a magician feels joy
in his heart only when he himself enjoys his performance along
with the audience .

VISITING RING
Rajamoorthy
EFFECT:
The magician draws a ring behind his business card and
hands it over to the spectator. He then causes the drawing to jump
from the spectator’s card to his in a visual manner. The card is
finally handed over with a lasting impression.
WHAT YOU NEED:
4 Business Cards, a marker
PERFORMANCE:
Take four of your business cards, turn them face down and
on the blank surface of the top card, draw a ring as neat as
possible. Spread the cards to show that the other three are indeed
blank (fig 1). As you close the cards, hold a pinky break under the
top two cards. Your right hand then holds the top two cards as one
using a ‘Biddle grip’ and slides them to the right.
The top two cards are now gripped between your left thumb
on top and your left index, middle and ring fingers underneath
(fig.2). In one continuous movement, turn your left hand face down
and at the same time your left thump will slide the ‘Ring card’ back.
Pull out the protruding card (actually blank on the back) and keep
it (print side up, of course!) on the spectator’s hand.
THE MAGIC NEST 25 Nest-1 / Egg - 2
When done smoothly, this is a move that helps you to
switch cards without any suspicion. Ask him/her to cover it with
their other hand.
Take the remaining three cards in your right hand and fan
them (the ‘Ring card’ is now on the bottom). Remove the middle
card and turn it blank side up and place it back in the middle.
Now it’s time for the visual appearance of the ring. Make a
wide fan with the three cards. Your right thumb and index finger
pinch the three cards on the right bottom corner. Your right middle
finger rests along the bottom short side of the middle card (fig. 3).
Wave the three cards above the spectator’s closed hands. As you
wave, your right middle finger will push the bottom two cards
causing them to flip over ending in a flash appearance of the ring
(fig. 4 and 5). Start with a moderate speed as you wave the cards
and gradually slow down once the ring has appeared. The stunned
spectator will now open his/her hand and see that the ring has
‘disappeared’ from between their hands and reappeared visually
in between two other business cards.

EFFECT:
A selected card from a mixed deck is revealed.
WHAT YOU NEED:
A full deck of cards.
PERFORMANCE:
A shuffled deck is given to a spectator who cuts it at any
place and deals SEVEN CARDS face down in a line on the table.
He then looks at any of these cards, remembers it, takes up the
other six and mixes his card among them. He hands the packet to
the magician, who looks through the cards and removes one of
them, tabled it face down. The spectator is asked to name the
card and when the performer turns over the card, he holds it
proves to be the same one.
SECRET:
The secret is the Si-Stebbins Stack.
Now a days magicians have forgotten the stacking systems
in their card work. The following is a beautiful effect which seems
to be hard to do in practical but in real, it is very easy to do.
In this effect the cards are not marked. He has not seen the
face of a single card until the packet of seven is handed to him.
Then how?
The pack is stacked in the Si Stebbins order and the
magician retains this order in the false shuffle with which the
routine begins.
If seven cards are dealt from any position of a pack so
stacked, it is not difficult to rearrange them in their original order
THE MAGIC NEST 31 Nest-1 / Egg - 2
after they have been mixed. But doing this will take a time of over
half a minute and this would be fatal to the effect. So, we use a
simpler way to solve this.
Wherever they come from, the seven cards consist of four
of one colour and three of the other. Ignore the four cards of the
same colour. Take the remaining three cards of the other colour.
Among them, two cards will have the same suit and the remaining
single card will have the other suit. (That single card is the 4th
card of that line).
Subtract 9 from the value of that single card (if it is already
less than 9, add 13 before making the subtraction) and that gives
the value of the first card in the line. Everything else stems from
that.
(eg.1) Let’s say the 7 cards are 8C, JH, AS, 4D, 7C, 10H,
KS.
The spectator looks the 5th card, 7C. Now, the seven cards
are mixed and cards are in your hand in the order
AS, 10H, 7C, 4D, JH, 8C & KS
The first thing is to sort out the colour represented by only
three cards, mentally as below:
AS 7C 8C KS à All black
JH 10H 4D à All red
The next is to find the single card among these three. Here
the single card is 4D. Add 13 to the value of the card (i.e.) 17,
subtract 9 and the result is 8 (4+13-9=8).
So 8C is the first card of the line. Hence the line is 8C, JH,
AS, 4D, 7C, 10H, KS.
Since you noticed at what position in the line lay the card at
which the spectator looked, you are in a position to name it.

Hello Bobby
are you free
Gotto help me my friend
u know the card is seven hearts even if u take time it can b
trying to capture the picture.
Performance:
While performing, bring out the candies from your pocket &
display them in your right palm. The JUZT JELLY candy at this
point of time must be the one closest to the base of your right-hand
fingers. Now execute a Shuttle pass from your right hand to your
left hand. However, during this maneuver you secretly finger palm
the JUZT JELLY candy in your right hand.
Place apparently the 3 candies in the cup & cover the cup
with the saucer. Casually place your right hand which conceals the
JUZT JELLY candy in your right-side pocket & dump the candy in
the pocket at the same time bring out the cards bearing the
pictures of the candies.
Force the card containing the picture of JUZT JELLY on to
the spectator. Now magically snap over the cup & ask the
spectator to pour out the contents of the cup. He/she will be
surprised to find the empty JUZT JELLY wrapper. Open your
mouth dramatically to show that the JUZT JELLY candy has
magically transported from its wrapper & ended up in your mouth.

Overall
The structure is impeccable. The format of an engaging
narrative, technical breakdown, and essay that ties together the
two, is perfect. Overall, the author has put together a very
engaging and entertaining book. That is not easy to do in any
genre.
Equally impressive is the storytelling. The author knows
how to build a narrative structure.
The technical breakdowns on magic is where the book
shines. It is clear that Clifford is a master of his craft. He explains
techniques and methods in a way that is engaging, accessible, and
easy to understand. I’ve tested most of the tricks I had the
necessary props for, and while I’ve never tried magic, I felt that with
practice it wouldn’t take me very long to be able to try them on family
and friends.
I also found the fact that Clifford included a reference to the
history of the trick and credited the inventor, when possible, which
is very admirable.

This Easter Egg was designed by our associate editor Mr. Narayanamurthy.
Many eagerly participated in the quizzes but unfortunately none answered all of them.
Those who found the answers for quizzes failed with easter egg and vice versa.
