Life and Human Body
We only have one life and one body to care of, and we
better do it right. You never know what tomorrow may
bring and so we better live this life the best we can and
be grateful for everything we have.
Novak Djokovic
Your Body holds deep wisdom. Trust in it. Learn from it.
Nourish it. Watch your life transform and be healthy.

The human body begins to develop from a single cell called _______________.
It spends the next few days traveling down the oviduct (fallopian tube).
During this time, it divides to form a ball of cells called a blastocyst. It is made up of
an inner group of cells with an outer shell.

All major external structures (e.g., limbs) and internal organs (e.g., heart) are
established during the fourth to eighth weeks.
Embryos in the 6th week show spontaneous movements.

Life Process
• All living organisms have certain characteristics
that distinguish them from non-living things.
Cells
• A human body contains about 100 trillion (1012)
cells forming a complex multi-cellular structure

Four General Categories of Specialized Cells
1. Muscle cells (myocytes) 肌肉细胞
– Generate the mechanical activities
– Able to contract and relax that produce force
and movement

Introduction to Human Body
Tissues
• Tissues are somewhat more complex units
than cells.
• A tissue is an organization of a great many
similar cells with varying amounts and kinds of
nonliving, intercellular substance between
them.
Organs (器官)
• Organs are more complex units than tissues.
• An organ is an organization of several different
kinds of tissues so arranged that together they
can perform a special function.

Study Human Anatomy and Physiology
Vander’s Human Physiology, 15th ed., • describe the basic terms used in the study of
McGraw-Hill, 2018, New York. the human body structure and function
• describe the structural features of cells and
tissues of the major organs
• describe the anatomical organization of the
human organ systems
• describe how organ systems interact so as to
perform various physiological functions
• discuss the importance of the skeletal and
muscular, sensory, cardiovascular,
respiratory, renal, reproductive,
integumentary, and gastrointestinal systems
in the maintenance of homeostasis
• explain how human organ systems can adapt
to various physiological changes.
Expect an integrated approach to
