INDIGENOUS

OR
TRADITIONAL GAMES

Presented by: Group 3

INTRODUCTION
Nowadays, it is not possible to live entirely apart from the social group. Through
participation in indigenous games, one can find satisfaction, enjoyment and
camaraderie. Indigenous games come from different places in our country. The rules
of the games were modified as these were handed down from generation to
generation. Different regions have different games depending on the culture and
location. Some indigenous games are Harangang Taga which is commonly known as
Patintero or Tubigan, Taguan, Araw at Gabi, Sungka, MoroMoro, Luksong Baka and
Luksong Tinik.
LUKSONG TINIK
(HURDLING THORNS)
- It origins in Cabanatuan City, province of Nueva Ecija,
Philippines
-The settings for this game will be outdoor/indoor.
-It's an old philippine game that many children like
simply because it has everything that makes a jumping
contest exciting. The name means "jumping over thorns"
and it involves jumping over an obstacle sometimes the
obstacle is only a stick that is held by two children and
raised higher and higher
- IN A GROUP OF TWO EQUAL TEAMS, EACH TEAM SELECTS ONE
MOTHER, AND THE OTHER TEAM MEMBERS ARE THE CHILDREN. THE
MOTHERS HAVE TO BE HIGH JUMPERS WHO ARE ABLE TO JUMP WITH
HANDS STACKED ON TOP OF EACH OTHER WITHOUT TOUCHING THEM.
THE PARTNERS FACE EACH OTHER IN LONG SITTING POSITION. THE
FIRST TO JUMP WILL BE DECIDED BY THE MOTHERS, WHO WILL TOSS
A SLIPPER OR SHOE. THE MOTHER WHO WINS THE TOSS WILL HAVE
THE FIRST JUMP AND THE OTHER TEAM PLAYERS WILL BE THE
“TAYA” (ON BASE).
PROCEDURES
1. TWO PLAYERS SIT ON THE BASE FACING EACH OTHER WITH
THEIR FEET TOUCHING.

2. THE JUMPERS JUMP OVER THE FEET.

AND FINGERS OPEN,THEN ANOTHER, AND SO ON UNTIL ALL
THE FINGERS ARE PILED ONE ON TOP OF THE OTHER.

4. BEFORE PLACING ADDITIONAL HAND, ALL PLAYERS MUST

HAVE JUMPED OVER THE PILE.

5. SOMETIMES, FIVE HANDS ARE USED AND A FOURTH PLAYER

IS CALLED UPON TO FILL THE FILE OF THE HANDS.
RULES
• The opponent must jump over the hands without touching any
part of their body or clothes. Jumpers take turns in jumping and
returning behind the line.

• If the rest of the team touch the hands while jumping over
them, it is considered a “fault” and the mother will jump for
them.

• If it is the mother who fails, the team will have to take the
place of the team on base
TUBIGAN OR PATINTERO
PATINTERO, ALSO KNOWN AS HARANGANG-TAGA OR
TUBIGAN, IS A TRADITIONAL FILIPINO CHILDREN'S
GAME.IT DERIVED FROM SPANISH WORD TINTE WHICH
MEANS “TINT" OR "INK" IN REFERENCE TO THE DRAWN
LINES. ANOTHER NAME FOR IT IS TUBIGAN, TUBIGANAY,
OR TUBIG-TUBIG (WATER GAME), BECAUSE THE GRID
LINES ARE ALSO COMMONLY DRAWN BY WETTING THE
GROUND WITH WATER. IT IS ALSO KNOWN AS
HARANGANG-TAGA OR HARANG-TAGA WHICH MEANS
"BLOCK AND CATCH", REFERRING TO THE GAME
MECHANICS.

PATINTERO IS ONE OF THE MOST WIDELY

IT ORIGINATED IN MANILA. IN ORDER TO
FUNCTION, IT MUST BE PLAYED BY TWO
TEAMS WITH EQUAL NUMBERS OF PLAYERS.
IT CAN BE DONE OUTSIDE OF YOUR HOUSE,
AND YOU ONLY NEED CHALK OR PAINT FOR
MARKING PURPOSES

PROCEDURES
1. A number of parallel lines are drawn fifteen feet apart.
2. A perpendicular line is then drawn so as to cross the middle of each
parallel line.
3. One team takes the field and the players are assigned to their assigned
position.
4. He/she also "covers" the perpendicular line and may pass up and down to
tag any opponent who crosses it in an attempt to penetrate the defense.
5. Each of the remaining lines is guarded by one player for the defense.
6. Each defensive player guards only the line of the opponent he/she is
previously assigned.
7. The game begins with all the players of the opposing team starting in front
of the captain's line. Their objective is to pass through all the lines of defense
and back again to the starting place without being tagged by an opponent.
RULES OF THE GAME
1. The game starts with a toss of a coin to decide the team that becomes
the passer or runner.
2. There is a time limit of two minutes for each team to score.
3. Once the two minutes elapse, the two teams change sides, and the
guards become the passers and vice-versa.
4. The passers or runners are supposed to cross the lines from the starting
point and back, to earn a point.
5. The line guards are positioned on the vertical lines with one on the
horizontal line of the grid, making sure that their feet are always on the
line.
6. The patintero objectives of the line guards include tagging the passers
or runners with their powered or butterfly hands and blocking them from
passing the lines.

position of the passers.

5. If it is dropped in an empty hole in one’s own row, he is also declared dead, but if
there are shells opposite that last hole, he gets them all (kain) and puts them in his
mother hole.
6. If it is dropped in a filled hole, all contents are scooped out and distributed around.
7. If it is dropped in his own mother hole, he is entitled to choose the shells to be
distributed again. If he chooses to get shells from the nearest hole (adjacent to
