GENIL, JAN MALAYA

BSTM 1-A

ASSESMENT TASK 2-1

Write a short essay on: how is your personal attitude and behavior affecting your
family?

“There is no place like home” they said. Yes I do believed in that quotation yet
sometimes I don’t feel the meaning of it at all.
Why am I lonely whenever I’m at home? Why am I more happy and free when
I’m with friends, in school, in streets specifically on outside rather than when I’m
with my family. I felt like I’m on the loose, I can express who really I am and do what
I want to do. I can speak any words I want to say to show other people what kind of
person I am.
I do have my personal problems yet I have always kept it as a secret. Sometimes
I bring it out to my family but less detailed. I think that this was the reason why
we’re not that close to each other.
There was a lot of time that I’m excited to tell them what happened in my day.
While I’m talking I observed that their eyes and ears were not focused on me and
they’re not listening. That situation slapped me so hard as if they are not interested
in my stories and realized that I will probably not going to tell them my thoughts nor
problem ever.
I admit that I’m not that smart when it comes to academic but I know that I can
do better. I always did my very best to obey their orders and demands but still I think
that my best wasn’t that good enough for them to be proud. There is one time that I
got an average of 96 in my senior high school year. I’m overexcited to tell them and
to show my certificate but when they are looking on it, they did not even say
anything, any words that could motivate me to aim higher and that moment I felt
like I’m useless.

ASSESSMENT TASK 2-4

Instruction: The followings are familiar Filipino expressions or "sayings". Write an

objective way of looking at these ideas and ways of living it.

1. Kung maiksi ang kumot, matutong mamaluktot.

In Philippine culture, people tend to keep their lifestyles even in time of crisis.
This leads to debts and more hardships in the future. This Filipino expression "while
the blanket is so short, learn how to bend" speaks of learning how to endure
hardships and it teaches of knowing how to adjust in times of crisis. Also, it shows
the value of spending according to ones means. It likewise speaks of making do with
what you have by being resourceful.

2. Ang lalagyang walang laman ay maingay.

Empty vessels make the most noise means that people who talk a lot about their
knowledge, talent or experience are often not as knowledgeable, talented or
experienced as they claim to be. Similarly, a person who doesn't know what he or
she is talking about will often put on more of a show than someone who relies on
facts. They never seem to look for the good in anyone or anything and are often
critical, rude and judgemental. They are usually the first to tell you what you’re doing
wrong--for your own good of course.

3. Kung hindi ukol, hindi bubukol.

This proverb can be applied to may life situations, as usually the case of these
sayings. Generally speaking it means that, if it does not pertain to you or if it has no
relevance to you then you should not feel affected or hurt by it. For an instance in
criticism, depending on the context of whatever criticism is being posted, it could
mean if you are not guilty of doing something that is being alleged has been done,
then you should not be affected by those criticisms, or if you are not the type of
person that is being described in the post, then you should not feel hurt because the
posting does not pertain to you.

4. Ang tumakbo ng matulin, pag natinik ay malalim.

This proverb tells of how being hasty could be unwise. In every decisions you will
make, you should be slowly but should be wise. As it is good to take things slowly, it
may also have some consequence if not done wisely and that is the strive for a good
balance that makes decisions difficult. This encourages the benefit of thinking before
acting as this would always result to wiser decisions.
5. Ang pagaasawa ay hindi biro, 'di tulad ng kanin; iluluwa kung napaso.

Marriage is a long-term commitment. When things become uncomfortable, you

have to face the problems instead of running away. It is not a joke. It is not like food
that you can spit out when it is too hot to chew.

and the application of the knowledge to help out people of disparate backgrounds.

 Reading 2: Anthropology of the Self

In view of the individual in cultural perspective (Share your thoughts).

Most anthropologists would define culture as the shared set of (implicit and

explicit) values, ideas, concepts, and rules of behaviour that allow a social group to
function and perpetuate itself and its goal is to learn about another culture by
collecting data about how the world economy and political practices effect the
new culture that is being studied.
