Detailed Lesson Plan in

Mathematics II

I. Objectives:

After 50 minutes, the pupils are expected to:

a. Identify shapes and figures that show symmetry in a line;

b. Show interest and enjoyment in doing activities; and

c. Draw a symmetrical line of object.

II. Subject Matter: Identifying Shapes/ Figures that show Symmetry

References: lesson Guide pp. 265-269

LM pp. 268-270

Materials: Cut outs of different figures, real objects and charts.

Strategy : Cooperative Strategy

Value: Sharing

III. Procedure

A. Preparatory Activities

Teacher’s Activity Pupils Activity

Good Morning class! Good morning Teacher.

(Classroom routine)

1. Drill

Class, have you read a riddle? Yes, Teacher!

Do you like to hear a riddle? Yes, Teacher!

Look at picture that I given to you, who are in the picture? A picture of two boys and two girls.

What do you think they are doing? I think they are talking to each other.

Yes, they’re talking, asking, and answering

about the riddle. And there’s question found

at the back of the picture.

Who can read the first riddle?

1. I have 3 sides and 3 corners. What am I? Triangle

2. I have 4 equal sides and corners. What am I? Square

3. I have 2 equal opposite sides and 4 corners. What am I? Rectangle

4. I am perfectly round. I have no corners and no sides.

What am I? Circle

2. Review

(showing real object or picture in the class)

What object is this? A ball

What kind of shape is the ball? A circle

What object is this? An umbrella

What kind of shape is the umbrella? A Triangle

What object is this? A Table

What kind of shape is the table? A Rectangle

3. Motivation

(the teacher will present a gift)

Class, what can you see on the table? A gift

Yes, this is a gift. My Mother gave this

to me. What do you think is inside this gift?

(the Teacher will open the gift)

But wait, theres more. There is letter for me.

B. Lesson Proper
1. Presentation

Do you want to hear, what is Yes, Teacher

inside this letter?

2. Setting of standard

Before I read this letter, I have

here a big tree, who can come in front

and get the fruit?

Expected answer

 Listen

 Cooperative

 Keep silence

 Participate

3. Reading the letter

imong ate.

Tungaa kini ug insakto anak, kinahanglan balance ang kadako ug ang

hulma niini.

Salamat anak!!

Slice the cake into 2 equal size? Yes teacher

C. Discussion

Are this two parts of cake equal? Yes, teacher!

Are they of the same size? Yes, teacher!

Yes, I need to slice this cake with 2 equal

slice. Because my mother told me.

How about this one. If I slice the cake in this

side, what happen to the size? The size is not equal

Yes, Very Good!

If we slice the cake equally, we call it

Symmetrical. But when we slice the cake not equal

We call it not symmetrical or asymmetrical.

What do you call to the object or Figure

that is cut equally? Symmetrical teacher.

What about if it is not cut equal? Not symmetrical teacher.

Very Good!

Symmetry is balancing a part of a whole

in respect size and shape.

What is symmetry? It is balancing a part of a whole

Yes, Very good!

Valuing:

Will it be okay, if I will not slice

the cake equally? No teacher

Why? Your mother will get mad.

Yes, that’s correct. We need to slice it

Equally. Sharing is giving and greediness is not

A good attitude.

Am I right class? Yes teacher.

4. Group Activities

I will group the class into 3 and each

Group work on the different activities.

You will be graded using this rubric.

10 points- All answer is correct.

9 points- 4 answers are correct.

8 points- 3 answer is correct

7 points - 2 answer is correct

6 points – 1 answer is correct

5 points - All answers are not correct

Group 1 Guessing game

 Name the object if it is Symmetry or not Symmetry.

1. . 2.

Group 2 “Cut me”

 Using cut outs of different shapes, draw as many line of symmetry as possible in

each shape.
1 . 2.

3. 4.

Group 3 “Finder”

 Find the half of the figure in the box to form symmetrical figures.

1. 2. 3.

D. Generalization

What is symmetry? Symmetry is balancing parts as a whole.

Yes, Very good!

When do we say that the object

is a symmetry? When the object is cut

equally teacher.

E. Application

 Complete each drawing to show symmetry. And find the half of it in the box.

2 . 3.

IV. Evaluation

 Put a check ( )on the blank if the object is symmetrical line and( x) if is not

symmetrical.
