What are the emotional, psychological and cultural impacts of ICT use on
learners from disadvantaged, marginalized and/or minority communities?

It is believed that the integration of Information and Communication Technologies

(ICT) among learners and teachers can tremendously enhance the quality of teaching
and learning. Besides, the advancement of the ICT technology is also used to improve
the academic performance of the learners in learning and has given space to the
teachers to boost their teaching in a more effective manner. However, it is also crucial
to identify the impacts on the cultural and emotional among the learners. Nonetheless,
it is also difficult to imagine contemporary learning environments that are not
supported by ICT since the impacts of these technological developments vary among
the various communities.

The way ICT impact learners from the marginalized and disadvantaged communities
varies from those who aren’t. Besides the research was important in examining the
underlying evidence of the impact of ICT use learners from disadvantaged and
marginalized communities and would therefore help policy makers others educational
practitioners in responding to changes in ICT as it continues to evolve. It would also be a
contribution to research on emotional and cultural impacts of ICT use on learners from
not so well-off background and it’s relation towards their academic achievement.

For future work larger sampling size in terms of using quantitative and qualitative
approaches to support the findings of the current research should be considered. As
consideration was limited to learners only for this research, more respondents should be
integrated into this research by getting the perspective of teachers, school
administrators and regional education official on the emotional and cultural impact of
ICT use. Besides further studies to compare if these cultural and emotional impacts of
ICT use have any direct contribution to the learner’s academic achievement and to
what extent and also to develop a best practice on handling this phenomenon in
schools.
