Topic: Racial Inequalities in Gifted and Talented Programs in Primary Schools in the
United States

A. Rational: America was built on slaves and the genocide of Native Americans. White
Americans of European descent typically don’t hear about the effects of systemic
racism, and even less of how it is still affecting upcoming generations due to their
privilege. One thing people do not realize about racial inequality is that it is taught in
school systems, and this ignorance can contribute to bigger issues.
B. Question:
- What issues do people of color face in selection for Gifted and Talented
programs in primary schools?
- What is white privilege?
- Can people of Asian descent be privileged despite being a minority?
- What lasting effects do racial inequalities in primary school have on people of
color?
C. Hypothesis: What differences do European and Asian descent have when being
selected for gifted programs compared to their peers of South American/Latino and
African descent?
D. Method: In order to conduct my research, I will be primarily using school resources
and websites.
