Summary: Stanford University, recognized as one of the most prestigious and innovative academic institutions in the world, has an immediate opening for an Associate Director in the Womens Community Center (WCC), a division of the Vice Provost for Student Affairs (SA). This department is unique in that the activities of Student Affairs units traverse both academic and non-academic areas, providing programs and services focused on student development, intellectual engagement, diversity and multiculturalism, and community building, among others. The Stanford Womens Community Center (WCC) is a dynamic and creative department that employs a solution-oriented, mission-driven, feminist, and positive approach to addressing womens issues at Stanford and beyond. The WCC works collaboratively with Feminist Studies and other academic departments, as well as the Clayman Institute for Gender Research to carry out its mission of facilitating opportunities for scholarship, leadership, and activism for students. The WCC is responsible for a variety of campus-wide programs for both undergraduate and graduate students and has a solid reputation for addressing current needs and issues through innovative programming and staying relevant to todays student population. With a talented student staff, our approach to programming is one that is very collaborative and creative in nature. The Associate Director of the Womens Community Center will be responsible for working collaboratively with the Director to plan and implement all facets of the center as it pertains to the mission. We are looking for someone who is driven, forward-thinking, and well-versed in feminist theory, who has experience working with college students and a strong ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of people. This is an 11-month full-time, 1 month (July) part-time position with an anticipated start date of January 2012. ____________________________________________________________________ Position Summary: The Associate Director will work collaboratively with the director on all levels of day to day operations of the Womens Community Center, including supervision of student staff, general campus programming, and outreach; will coordinate the financial and administrative functions of the center; and will provide advice and leadership to students and voluntary student organizations in the womens community. The Associate Director will assist in the development and implementation of policies and practices that foster greater university-wide appreciation for the educational, social, cultural, and policy needs identified by the womens community at Stanford. Job Responsibilities: Program Planning, Collaborations, Outreach (50%): In conjunction with the Director and student staff, plans and executes annual cultural, academic, and educational programs with University-wide impact to meet the goals of the center. These include welcome events during New Student Orientation, Admit Weekend, International Womens Week, and Herstory events, etc. 1

Supervises and advises the Sexual Assault Prevention Coordinator (student position), to plan and implement both one time and on-going programs to create campus-wide awareness and prevention campaigns Serves as a liaison and campus partner to various constituencies, committees, and organizations concerned with sexual assault prevention and awareness programs Works with student coordinator to plan and implement an annual Herstory program, highlighting womens issues in the local, national, and international community Develops outreach efforts and strategies for communication (emails, printed material, web-based content) for the centers constituents: undergraduate and graduate students, womens voluntary student organizations, parents, alumni, faculty, and staff Advise students in facilitating and help to develop Gender Dialogue programming within the residence halls Serve as a representative of the Womens Community Center of various campus-wide committees; Assist in collaborations with other departments and organizations to conceive and implement programs that address the changing needs of women students on campus Develops and maintains strong relationships with constituencies across campus including the Feminist Studies department and the Clayman Institute for Gender Research Purposefully promote an inclusive learning environment for all students that encourages personal growth, selfreflection, critical thinking & academic success

Student/Organization Advising and Leadership Development (25%) Responsible for advising a wide range of voluntary student organizations affiliated with the Womens Community Center, with a feminist lens, on major event planning, organizational development, fundraising, recruiting, and University policy as it relates to their activities; Supervise and advise the Outreach Coordinator (student position) to serve as a liaison and advocate for WVSOs and other related groups and departments; the Outreach Coordinator is also responsible for planning and implementing campus-wide programs familiarizing students with WCC programs Cultivate relationships with student leaders, with a strong understanding of student development theory and feminist theory; this may include but is not limited to organizing regular orientations, networking events, and meetings; Foster a collaborative environment connecting students and organizations with one another to work together on related programs or projects within the purview of the Womens Community Center With the director, identifies, plans and implements leadership development opportunities and community building efforts such as leadership retreats and monthly meetings of voluntary student organizations housed at the center Advises students on how to identify and secure resources necessary to achieve successful programs and build efficient and effective organizations; Supervisory, Budgetary, and Administrative Responsibilities (25%) Supervises approximately five student staff members; this includes weekly meetings to discuss programs, marketing, assessments, and support as well as midterm and year-end reflections Assists the director in developing comprehensive training for new student employees including orientation to the theoretical framework for the work of the center, and the mission and goals of the Womens Community Center; 2

Manages the centers operating and gift accounts; allocates money for programs, reconciles budgets; originates and approves all transactions, and ensures that the center stays within spending limits; Makes purchases of office supplies, capital, and non-capital equipment as necessary; Manages and oversees facility and usage by student and other organizations; Assists visitors to the WCC and provides and introduction to services and programs for students Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: A Bachelors degree and Masters in a related field, or combination of equivalent work and educational experience, required. Related fields include: higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, psychology, feminist/womens studies, or gender studies; Requires three to five years of directly related full-time work experience on a college campus in the area of student affairs; or equivalent combination of education and experience; Strong understanding and knowledge of feminist theory and other identity-based theoretical frameworks (such as queer theory, critical theory) in a multi-generational and interdisciplinary context Applicable experience in putting this theory into practice Knowledge and understanding of issues related to sexual assault prevention on college campuses and an ability to articulate and implement relevant programming and advisement in this area; Experience working with college students in both an advisory and supervisory capacity is required; Knowledge of the challenges faced by undergraduate and graduate students in a highly selective residential institution and ability to assist students in navigating this environment is required; Prior experience managing budgets and supervising student staff in a university setting Ability to work some evenings and weekends Skills: Understanding of student development, social justice and organizational development in student affairs is strongly preferred. Ability and willingness to learn and use Stanford financial systems is essential; Ability to work with and gain support from a broad and diverse array of constituents, including students, staff, faculty, alumni, parents and visitors is essential; Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to present information to both small and large groups is required; Willingness to take on new challenges in a dynamic and constantly changing environment is key to the role Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups from a variety of identities, cultures and backgrounds in providing information and creating strong working relationships Ability to communicate and develop relationships with students, faculty, and other constituents in a warm and professional manner Creativity, resourcefulness, initiative, and a high degree of motivation is required Application Information To apply, please visit: http://jobs.stanford.edu and submit a cover letter and resume in reference to job #44434.
