CEEN 4359-Exam 3 Date: 5/1/2023 Name:

Open Book (electronic devices are not allowed)

Problem 1: (50 points)

There is a signalized intersection, which is isolated, under pretimed control, and
has no initial queue at the beginning of analysis period.

Phasing:

Adjusted Saturation Flow Rates

Phase 1 (E/W prot. LT’s): 1500 veh/h
Phase 2 (E Th/RT’s): 3000 veh/h
Phase 2 (W Th/RT’s): 3500 veh/h
Phase 3 (N/S perm. LT’s): 500 veh/h
Phase 3 (N/S Th/RT’s): 1800 veh/h
The effected green times for phases 1, 2, and 3 are 43.42 s, 76.18 s, and 76.44 s
respectively. Considering 4 s lost time pre phase:
1) Calculate the cycle length.
2) Calculate total delay and LOS for SB left-turn lane group.
Problem 2: (50 points)
A work-mode-choice model is estimated from data in a small urban area to
determine the probabilities of individual travelers selecting various modes. The
mode choices include automobile drive alone (DL), automobile shared ride (SR),
and bus (B). and the utility functions are estimated as:
UDL= 2.3- 0.4(CostDL )- 0.02 (Travel timeDL)
USR= 0.5- 0.3(CostSR )- 0.02 (Travel timeSR)
UB= - 0.2(CostB )- 0.02 (Travel timeB)

Where cost is in dollar and travel time is in minutes. Between a residential area
and an industrial complex 4000 workers (generating vehicle-base trips) depart for
work during the peak hour. For all workers, the cost of driving and automobile is
$6, with a travel time of 20 minutes, and the bus fare is $1 with the travel time of
20 minutes. If the shared ride option always consists of 2 travelers sharing costs
equally, how many workers will take each mode?
