Misery

Syed Ali Moiz

A contemplation of the familiar complexity

of misery and how it influences the human
experience.
Misery, it shapes

And all the snakes, they shake

You awake from your slumber.

The hissing, sometimes familiar,

sometimes a wonder.

Always raises each hair on your limbs.

As you lay there frozen in fear.

Or brace yourself and put yourself in

gear.

For another day, for another party, for

another year.

But if this seems a burden, then think

again.
For confusion is the place where it all

began.

The pain and the looming weight of

regret, while dreadful, always bring

with it certainty and assurance.

Assurance of your humanity, and

assurance of a beating heart.

Where helplessness and confusion dance,

hand-in-hand, through the dark.

There are only no-go zones and a strong

instinct to withdraw.

And it makes you tired, tired of the

long crawl.

But by now, this is all you know.
