Activity #5 Village of the water mills
Instruction: After watching the video clip Village of the Watermills,
answer the following questions in not more than 5 sentences per question. (20 points) 1. What do you think is the attitude of an old man to life? The adage "Simplicity is the highest sophistication" describes the elderly man's outlook on life. He has discovered that living simply and naturally is the ideal way to live, and that simplicity is the height of profundity. According to him, the "conveniences" that man produced are unneeded for human life and only serve to corrupt people's hearts with greed and want. They also work to dilute human nature's inherent purity, he would much rather commune with nature and make use of its riches. He finds and enjoys the beauty of life and environment via simple living, which is how he describes a good existence. 2. The attitude of an old man towards science & technology? The elderly guy thinks that the decline and extinction of nature was caused by the growth of science and technology. He claims that individuals who are intelligent enough to create things frequently overlook the fact that they are a part of nature and are blind on what nature has already offered. That despite their attempts to find answers, they just generated additional issues. His point is that as long as there is access to necessities like clean, fresh air, water, and food, as well as those who generate them, humans do not require modern technology to survive. 3. How do you reconcile the need for technology and the dilemma (s) it faces? Let us be morally and ethically decent in how we approach science and technology. Respecting certain principles, keeping in mind that nature comes first, and taking into account how our actions may be impacted by scientific and technical advancements are all important. Find solutions for nature and technology to coexist that will prevent them from harming one another. Recognizing limits and being aware of the effects of every action rather than simply seeking advantages will be crucial in achieving reconciliation. It is important for people to understand that nature has its own boundaries, which set restrictions on human interactions with it. “I hereby declare upon my word of honor that I have neither given nor received unauthorized assistance on this work”. 4. Should there be an ethics of technology? Explain. Everything a person undertakes ought to be guided by ethics because individual morality is determined by ethics, while social obligations to one another and oneself are determined by society. Every human being has the ability to determine if a certain behavior is ethically acceptable, morally correct, or morally wrong. Everyone has their own interpretation of what is "good/right" and "bad/wrong," even if these terms do not have the same meaning for everyone. In a perfect world, morality and law may imply the same thing, but in the actual world, they don't because any actions that would be viewed as immoral by the majority of people are not banned by law and vice versa. That's why ethics are important as it establishes a moral code that would help prevent any process of harm from one human being to another.
