AIM: To determine the composition of lawn between N blocks using 2 different sampling

methods.

Method 1- Random Quadrat

1. Randomly sample the area by place 10 cm x 10 cm quadrats down.

2. Percentage count the species in the quadrat
3. Sample until you have completed 15 samples.
4. Calculate the percentage composition of the species on the lawn
5. % composition for species ‘x’ = number of species ‘x’ / number of total species.

Method 2 – Transect

1. Lay out a 5 m transect and record the species found every 0.5 m.
2. Repeat 5 x transects
3. Calculate the Percentage composition
4. Percentage composition for species ‘x’ = number of species ‘x’ recorded / total number of
sample points
