Pendleside Hospice

Pendleside hospice aim to greatly improve the quality of life for people with life-limiting illnesses.
They do this by providing bereavement support having in patient units and share good practice,
innovative solutions, and learning.

They have a team of volunteers who help:

 Discuss spiritual or personal needs

 Pray with people
 Offer support irrespective of culture, faith, or belief
 Put them in touch with their own faith leader

Catholics might support their work because they believe that a person’s dying months or years
should try to be made positive and enjoyable rather that ending their life with euthanasia. They also
believe that life is sacred because it is given by God any only God can decide when life ends so
euthanasia is not an option but instead people should use services such as Pendleside hospice.
However, the roman catholic church teaches us that unquestioningly prolonging the life of a dying
person is not acceptable.

Not Yet Dead

Not dead yet oppose the legalised killing of disabled people all around the world. They go to major
cities and campaign against it. They use slogans such as “Assist us to live not die”, “Give is support
not suicide” and “Accept our lives not our deaths” to try and show what the reality of euthanasia is.

A catholic may support the work of Not Yet Dead this is because they believe that no person has the
right to deliberately end the life of any other person. They support hospice who provide palliative
care. However, come Christians may argue that if a person is terminally ill and in extreme pain or
distress euthanasia may be done in compassion only if the person fully understands the
consequences of their actions. They may also use the argument of free will to justify it where a
person uses their god given free will to choose to end their own life. They will never support it if it is
involuntary active.
