Semi-detailed Lesson Plan in Science 9

I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students must have:
 describe the different atomic orbitals;
 describe the four sets of quantum numbers and;
 explain how radio active elements are utilized the diagnosis and treatment of diseases,
the risks involved and the methods of protection
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Atomic Orbitals and Quantum Models, Electron Configuraiton and Radioactivity
Reference: Science Grade 9 (2012). Department of Education
Materials: Powerpoint Presentaion
Skills: Listening and Analyzing
Value focus: The significance of atomic orbitals, sets of Quantum Numbers and Electron
Configuration
Method: Discussion and demonstration through face-to-face class setting
III. Learning Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Checking of attendance
d. Review
- The teacher will have a brief review about yesterday’s topic.
B. Motivation
- Presentation of jumbled letters and identify the hidden words with the hint of
four pictures related to the topic.
C. Presentation of the Lesson
- Show Bohr’s model and the Quantum model. Ask the students to examine the
models. Ask them what are the differences.
- Let the students explain the differences and similarities they found.
- Guide the students in using tables 3.5 and 3.6 while explaining the Quantum
numbers.
- Let the students compare Bohr’s model and the quantum model of an atom.
- Using the electron configuration posted on the board. Explain rules 1 to 3 on
page 75.
D. Development of the Lesson
- The teacher will cite the needed information about the topic and show the
pictures of an x-ray machine, a pacemaker and Geiger counter in order for them
to fully understand the lesson.
E. Generalization
- The teacher will ask students for questions and clarifications.
IV. Evaluation
- Fill in the blanks. Fill the missing information in the table. Write your answers on
a 1 whole pad paper.
-
V. Assignment
