CONCEPTS
The word preamble can be defined as the introductory paragraph or
statement in a document like the one that we have in our constitution. It
states the fundamental reasons for and intent of the law so that the people
will have a better understanding of what to expect from the succeeding
contents. In the Philippine Preamble that our constitution, it is stated that the
God Almighty is the center and most important source of knowledge and
power in governing the people. The laws included in the Republic Acts are
based on what the Lord wants people to follow. It explains that the human
law constructed in the 1987 Constitution is anchored with that of the Lord's
Commandment. It is what the people see to be the binding force in order to
have a society with fair and equal treatment. The Constitution recognizes the
importance of the common good among the individuals present in our
country. It is the main goal to sustain and uphold the goodness of everyone
regardless of their status. The Preamble also has the concept of patrimony.
Where the state recognizes its separation from the Church and other
religious institutions. In the same way, our Republic behave democratic
system of governance, where people has their voices. Lastly, the preamble
ended by mentioning truth, justice, freedom, love, equality, and peace as the
ones that the Constitution wants its people to widely experience.
SUGGESTIONS OR COMMENTS
The Philippine Preamble is constructed well. The abstract of the
Constitution can be formulated from reading the Preamble itself. It is a good
thing that though there is a separation between the state and the church,
still the law of the people is based and crafted from what the Lord wants His
people to follow. I only have one suggestion to share. In my opinion, it is
best if the words used are those that can be easily understood by all the
Filipino people. They should have used simpler English terms like "asks or
pleads" instead of imploring, or "prevail" instead of promulgate. Such simple
words can be better understood. I know that there are several translations
available but we can't deny that the English version is what most offices
used. The Constitution was made for the Filipino citizen so it is only proper for
Filipino people, regardless of their academic literacy can understand the
content of the Preamble.
