Excellent Class

Lesson Proper
Now we will proceed to our
new topic, Distinguishing
Fact and Opinion.
What is Fact?
Fact is verifiable. It is
a statement that may be to
be true because it exists.
We can determine whether
it is true by researching
the evidence. This may
involve numbers, dates,
testimony, etc.
(The students read the
Key FACT words are: definition.)
 Dates
 Science (The students listen to the
 Numbers lesson.)
 Historical events
 Non-fiction

Example of Facts
The tiger is the biggest
cat in the world.
The sun rises at east.
Pizza Hut opened in 1958.
Asia is the largest
continent in the world.
Earth, Saturn, Mars, and
Mercury are planets.

Opinion is a statement
that tells what the writer
thinks, believes, or feels
about a subject. It cannot
prove true or false. The
writer may use words that
appeal to the readers
emotions.

Key OPINION words Facts are statement that is

 Descriptive words. particular subject.
 Words that
exaggerate.

class.
The sunrise was beautiful
this morning.
I think dogs are the best
pet.
Traveling in Asia is more

activity “
Application
Mechanics
The class will be divided
into 3 groups. First, for
Group 1, they are going to
read paragraph 1, for
group 2 they are going to
read paragraph 2, for
group 3, they are going to
read paragraph 3, and the
last paragraph will be
read by all the groups.
After, the teacher will
read again the text and
each group will identify (Group 1 read the 1st paragraph.)
the underlined statement
if it is a fact or
opinion.

world.

Dear Marco,
This is my third time
visiting Paris, and I
think it is one of the
most beautiful cities in
the world. Paris, as I’m
sure you know, is the
capital of France. Today I
walked along the Avenue
des Champs-Elysees, which
is the most famous street
in Paris. I think it may (Group 3 read the 3 paragraph.)

be the most famous street

in the world. It is lined
with beautiful trees,
fountains, and flowers.
There are shops, theaters
and restaurants and many
sidewalks’ cafes.

I had a wonderful lunch

at one of the sidewalk
cafes. The pastry I had
for dessert was especially
delicious. Paris is known
for its fine French
cooking. I noticed on the
café menu that they serve (All the group read the 4th

French dishes which is
escargot, snails in other
words! I don’t think I’ll
be trying that while I am
here, though.

When you think of Paris,

you probably think of the
Eiffel Tower. Anyone
visiting Paris has to see
the Eiffel Tower. You can
see the top of the Eiffel
Tower from anywhere in the
city. It is almost 1,000
feet tall. When it was
built, it was the tallest
building in the world. You
can walk up the stairs to
the top, or you can take
an elevator. From the top Facts refers to something that

“(Very good. You did well

what we have discussed
earlier. Who can explain
to me the difference
