The nature of humans when overwhelmed by great emotions such as someone’s
death—will always be to find something to blame. The times where I thought I would
always be apathetic, as the time ticks, I found myself staring blankly at your grave.
As I sat there, the soft rain flushed the body that was covered in classic fitted
blouse with box pleated skirt that was supposed to be worn only in the cam-
pus premises. Realizations hit me for the nth time, to the extent of feeling lost.
For me, coming home drenched in the rain is better than them realizing I was cry-
ing again for the exact same reason. I walked up straight to my room, as it was
quite usual for an introverted kid to do that despite arriving late for dinner. At
times like these, doing assignments is the least of my concerns, so writing is the
only way I that I can cope up with everything. Be it poems or stories in random.
I am no poet, nor am I good at writing. I just express my thoughts through rhymes, for
I love how it resonates in my mind. These poems were ascribed to my nights where the
luxury to set foot in the land of tranquility is beyond reach. Where the only path I can go
across by taking my nightly swill of these bland sedatives to mellow out is nonexistent.
For a long while, I finally stood from my table and crept into my bed as I tucked myself
in. The silence of the spring’s night was once again filled with broken cries amidst the
pitter-pattering. Morning came, and gone was the darkness and fright. Still, it was a
sleepless night. I went outside my room to prepare for the day. I stepped foot in the cam-
pus feeling lifeless as always, still facing the void in my being. Yet, for some reason, as I
see everyone feeling lively, it made me feel better and more aware of what surrounds me.
While I was deep in thought, an acquaintance of mine approached me, “Hey, good
morning there!” she joyously said while smiling brightly. It may appear nugatory
for somebody, but it really was pleasing for me. I entered the room welcomed by the
warmth and the pleasing atmosphere of these people. Everyone is busy making their
lives hopeful and positive. And I guess I should, too. As I realized that I rather should
look for the positive things. From the friends that I have, and the school that I love.

year’s Archimedes Quiz bee competition which will
be held this 1:00 PM at the auditorium of UM Matina.
Each campus sent off two contestants for each cat-
egory; college and high school, and these students must
possess knowledge about certain areas in mathematics.
The competition is divided into three rounds: the Neo-
phyte Round or easy round, the Apprentice Round or average
round, and the top 5 accumulated scores will advance to the
Wizard Round or the difficult round. 10 questions are given for
each round and are distributed to different fields of mathematics.
Questions about Mathematics in Modern World, Al-
gebra & Trigonometry, Geometry, Statistics and Probability,
and Pre-calculus are to be expected in the college category.
Whereas for the high school category, ques-
tions may range between the topics General Mathemat-
ics, Business Mathematics, Statistics, and Basic Geometry.
The intensity of the competition has pushed
the strenuous trainings of the participants. Stu-
dents underwent days of training and deep revisions.
“The fact that we are not allowed to use cal-
culator and any aids except for pen and paper and a
board for answering, this event really has its own way
of intimidating us contestants.” Kate Samantha Famat
of UM Ilang High School expressed in an interview.

tion in the world of mathematics and scientific discoveries
such as the Archimedes’ screw and his principle of buoyancy.
