SEACOM ENGINEERING COLLEGE, DHULAGORI CAMPUS

DEPARTMENT:CSE+IT / SEM:II / CA:III / SESSION: 2023

Total Marks: 25/ Time: 30 min/ Paper Name: Math IIA / Paper Code: BS-M 201
Attempt all (5*5=25)
01.
i. Three bombs are dropped to destroy a bridge. The probabilities of hitting the bridge by these bombs are 0.5,
0.2 and 0.1 respectively. The probability that the bridge is hit (a)0.36 (b) 0.64 (c) 0.80 (d) 0.90
ii. A coin tossed. Event {H},{T} are
(a) mutually exclusive (b) independent events (c) dependent (d) both (a) and (c)
iii. The variance of a random variable X is
(a)𝐸𝐸(𝑋𝑋)2 (b) [𝐸𝐸(𝑋𝑋)]2 (c) 𝐸𝐸(𝑋𝑋)2 − [𝐸𝐸(𝑋𝑋)]2 (d) 𝐸𝐸(𝑋𝑋)2 − 𝐸𝐸(𝑋𝑋)
iv. If the mean of a distribution is 5, then the value of 𝐸𝐸(2𝑋𝑋 − 9) is
(a)10 (b)1 (c)-4 (d)-9
v. Four coins are tossed. Expectation of number of heads
(a)1 (b)2 (c)3 (d)4
02. Define Conditional Probability. State Baye’s theorem.
03. Two identical urns containing 4 white, 3 red balls & 3 white, 7 red balls respectively. An urn is chosenat random
& a ball is drawn from it. Find the probability that the ball is white. If the ball drawn is white, what is the
probability that it is from the first urn?
04. In a bolt factory, machines A, B and C manufacture respectively 25%, 35% and 40% of the total of theiroutput.
5%,4% and 2% are defectives bolts. A bolt is drawn at random from the product and is found to be defective.
What are the probabilities that it was manufactured by machines A, B and C?
05. In five throws with a coin find the probability of (i) 3 heads (ii) at least 3 heads (iii) at most 3 heads.
