VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

TITLE/GRADE/SALARY HIRING RATE: Trades Specialist - Mason/Plaster - $23.81/hr.


WORK LOCATION: Walkway Over the Hudson, Dutchess County
REGION: Taconic Region
NEGOTIATING UNIT: CSEA, NU03 – Operational Services Unit
JURISDICTIONAL CLASS: Non-Competitive
TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: Seasonal
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Thursday 7:00 – 5:30
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Park Manager, the selected candidate will perform masonry and other semi-skilled trades tasks as
well as a variety of other duties including but not limited to the following:
 Inspects deck surface to determine need and severity of repairs.
 Inspects, repairs and set pavers in visitor plazas following industry standards
 Prioritizes order of repairs based on industry standards, safety compliance or instruction from park management.
Determines dimensions, material, and labor requirements to accomplish the project.
 Following all NYS Guidelines, Purchases the required materials and supplies.
 Prepares rough sketches or plans from verbal or written instructions.
 Meets with park management to coordinate activities and schedule work to be performed to ensure that the work
continues and will be completed on schedule.
 Inspects and evaluates projects while in progress and when completed to ensure the work is completed to safety
specifications and according to the planned outcome.
 Inspects work performed by lower-level park staff to ensure conformance with project specifications. Keeps written
records of work performed and accounts for labor and material used.
 Periodically evaluates the work performance of subordinate staff on projects led by this position and reports to
management.
 Snow and ice removal as needed and as directed by facility management
 Assist in other areas of park operations as directed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of full-time experience under a journeyman carpenter, which provided training equivalent to that given in an
apprenticeship program. Apprenticeship training or training gained by the completion of technical courses in carpentry at a
school, institute or branch of the Armed Services, may be substituted for the above training and experience on a year-for year
basis.
OPERATIONAL NEED:
Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor tasks and the ability to communicate orally with other staff. The ability to
supervise others and to communicate in writing and to read and comprehend written material. Applicants must possess and
maintain a valid Driver’s License. Must be able to pass a physical for respirator use and be able to work from heights.
