Laboratory Exercise No. 5
Terrestrial Ecosystem (Forest) Food Chain, Food Web, Trophic Structure
And Species Interactions

I. Objectives:

1. To identify and classify the biotic and abiotic components of the forest ecosystem.
2. To understand what a trophic structure is and identify the different trophic levels
3. To construct food chains and food webs based on the components of the forest
ecosystem.
4. To describe the different species interactions existing in the ecosystem

II. Procedure/Method:

1. Look for a forest ecosystem (500m2) in your place.

2. Take a picture of your chosen ecosystem.
3. Identify and classify all the biotic and abiotic components of the terrestrial ecosystem
identified.
4. Identify the different trophic levels and construct a trophic structure.
5. Make 5 food chains and construct a food web.
6. Identify and discuss the different species interactions existing in the ecosystem.
III. Data, Illustrations and Discussions:

Forest Ecosystem
IV. Conclusions:

In conclusion, the continuation of modern human culture is universally dependent on

forests and the things they produce. We typically do not even think it is even worthy of further
inquiry to modify our civilization such that it does not depend on the forest (to the forest's
disadvantage) and its accompanying benefits. As a result, it is crucial that we develop methods
for managing the forest sustainably so that it can give all of its potential advantages.

Reminder: Observe physical distancing/minimum health protocol during data collection.
