The People Status of Buri Weavers of San Juan Ilocos Sur

INTRODUCTION

Business plays a vital role in people’s lives and country’s economy .It concerns
about producing or selling goods and providing services using available resources,
whereby the wants and needs of the public is being sustained and usually put up for the
hope of earning money or  profit. Business is important for it provides the goods
and services needed by the people, creates opportunities for employments and helps
the government raises its revenues.; For the business to run successfully one important
factor is the people.
According to Berger, people refers to the total supply of people available or
currently working on a specific job or task. Having adequate manpower is an important
component in the success of such business.
The kind of business that need manpower are commerce, industry and even
some busines services. People plays a pivotal role in any business adventure.
However, there are some instances wherein the importance of manpower in such
business is not achieved. According to Joseph, the factors that affect the people are,
location, expansion, organizational structure, business condition, employee retention.
Manpower shortages can result in the production shortfalls.
The municipality of San Juan is home to the industries and created people the
ability of abundant resources particularly “buri” enabled the people to produce woven
items for their personal use from the pulp of the tree. Buri palm is a genius of six spices
of palms native to Indonesia, India, Malaysian, New Guneia and Philippines they are fan
palm trees with leaves with a long petiole terminating in a rounded fan of numerous
leaflets.
Buri is rich in San Juan “buri” weaving is traditional in the town. It is a source for
most of residents especially women and out of school youth. The people here in San
Juan were using “buri” for making pen holders, coin purses, table accessories, mats,
window blinds, desk organizers, fan, placemats, hats, boxes and novelty items. It can
be easily dyed and woven into many shapes or forms. Due to the up growing demand of
“buri” products, lack of weavers had become the problem.
With the researchers observation, the researcher wished to pursue a study that
would help the people status of “buri” weavers in San Juan, Ilocos Sur. The researcher
believes that the people is important factor in such business. Therefore, this research
would give them information that would help them in formulating solutions for the
betterment more expansion of their business.
METHODOLOGY

The ways how I gather the information that I stated is the experience of people
losing their jobs and losing people to create these products and also my observation
here in our municipality that we are lacking of people who knows how to make buri
crafts. The challenges that I have overcome is I was able to make this research even
though it’s difficult t find a reliable source just to help me make my research.

QUALITY OF INFOTMATION
The information that I have gathered are based on my observation here in our
municipality and these information builds up my mind that I should have conduct this
research to help the people take their job back or make this tradition back just like from
the past.

ANALYSIS
From this research people must take back their jobs as a weavers to make
different kinds of products that they can sell for them to be able to help their family and
make a business of it so it can grow and spread the business in different places. What I
have learned in this conducting research is I was able to help the people in our
municipality to have their job and make our tradition back in terms of using this kind of
material or products.

CONCLUSION
About this research I have learn that I can help people who do not have jobs and
help them to find one and help them to make their own businesses that can help their
future and I want to bring back the time when we use this kind of products we still
remember our traditions. And also to stop animal killings when they used the skins of
animals to make bags and wallets and etc. and these products of buri is an eco-
friendly.
