GARLIC BREAD

INGREDIENTS
8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted margarine, at room temperature
2 tablespoons olive oil
5 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 (8-ounce, 14-inch) loaf soft French bread

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Make the garlic-herb spread. Mash the margarine, oil, garlic, dried herbs,
salt, and pepper together in a small bowl with a spatula.
2. Slice the bread. Cut the loaf of bread crosswise with a serrated knife into 12
(1-inch-thick) slices. Discard the ends or save for breadcrumbs or croutons.
3. Spread the garlic-herb mix on the slices. Arrange the bread slices in a single
layer on a baking sheet. Spread each slice with a generous amount of the garlic-
herb mix, 2 to 3 teaspoons.
4. Bake the garlic bread. When ready to bake, arrange a rack in the middle of the
oven and heat to 350°F. Place bread slices, spread-side up, on a rimmed baking
sheet. Bake until the edges are golden-brown, about 5 minutes. Serve
immediately.
