Process view of

supply chain
BY: Vanshika Singhal
The supply chain process occurs in two ways:

01 Cycle View:- processes in a supply chain are divided into a series of

cycles, each performed at the interfaces between two successive supply
chain stages.

02 Push/Pull view:- processes in a supply chain are divided into two

categories depending on

Pull: execution is initiated in response to a customer order (reactive)

Push: execution is initiated in anticipation of customer orders

(speculative)
Cycle view
It defines the processes involved and the owners of each process.
Process in a supply chain is divided into a series of cycles.
Supply chain process can be broken down into four process cycles
such as-
1) Customer order cycle
2) Replenishment cycle
3) Manufacturing cycle
4) Procurement cycle
Each cycles occurs at the interface between two successive stages of
the supply chain.
Cycle of Customer Orders
( Customer – Retailer)

Customer arrival means the arrival of a customer to

the market to make a purchase of his or her choice.
Success of the business is stated when the business
starts getting interaction from the customers.

There are further processes involved in the

customer order cycles these are • Arrival of
Customer • Customer order entity • Customers order
fulfillment • Customer order receiving.
Replenishment Cycle ( Retailer-Distributor)

In the replenishment cycle stage, mostly, there are

many retailers exactly reacted as a customer; the
stage is customer order entry according to main
features.

There are four processes of replenishment cycle.

These are • Retail order trigger • Retail order
receiving • Retail order fulfillment • Retail order
Inventor

Manufacturing Cycle
( Distributor -Manufacturer )

In this process, the main parties that are involved

are distributors with the manufacturer and/or
retailers with manufacturers. In addition, includes
replenishing distributor’s inventory.

. This process involves- • Scheduling the production

houses • Maintaining the manufacturing and shipping
placement • Orders that arrive from the distributor,
retailer or customers and the • Orders receiving at the
customer, distributor, and retailer, these are described
in details.

Procurement Cycle
( Manufacturer --- Supplier)

The interface of manufacturer/supplier is necessary

for the stage to occur. It included all processes in
which it is being insured the mobilization of materials
from the availability of manufacturing until the
scheduling perspective.

It is important that the supplier should integrate

with the manufacturing perspective by the
manufacturer
.

Push/Pull View of Supply Chains

Supply chain processes fall into one of two categories depending on

the timing of their execution relative to customer demand.

Pull View :- In this execution is initiated in response to a customer order

(reactive).

It operates in an environment in which customer demand is

known.

Therefore , at time of execution of a pull process, customer

demand is known with certainty.
Push view: In this execution isorders
initiated in anticipation of customer
(speculative).

Push/pull boundary separates push processes from pull

processes.

Useful in considering strategic decisions relating to

supply chain.
Can combine the push/pull and cycle views.
