In each station the architecture of the system will be based on the use of the Fire detection cabinet
installed in the SMO including a LFAP local fire alarm detection panel and one local dedicated
synoptic panel.
The LFAP will manage all the various type of detectors installed in each station, the fire sensing
action will be based on the control of fire characteristic values within the protected area. When
these values will go beyond their characteristic threshold, a fire alarm signal will be given to the
LFAP which will provide an audible and visual alarm to the SMO concerning the activated area
through the synoptic panel.
The connection of all devices will be realised by a two-wire double loop (to and from the control
unit) with shielded and twisted cable, the section of which is suitable for the whole length of the
loop.
This type of connection assures:
- Power supply
- Information exchange between detectors and control unit at both ends.
In order to provide protection against short circuits in the loop, isolators (part of special detector
bases) will be installed in specific points of the loop itself, to isolate the different zones of the
station; the use of such isolator will permit, in case of short circuit in one of the zones, the
possibility to continue to operate in the others, excluding from the control the faulty zone.
The status of each detector is available on the “Synoptic Panel” installed in the same rack to give
immediate localization of the concerned zone. In the same rack, the Station Master Office will have
the possibility to activate, by a protected push button, located inside each the station the
audible/visual devices to alert the passengers and operational staff for the evacuation of the
station.
The Fire detection cabinet will be composed by the following main components:
a) The Local Fire Alarm Panel (LFAP) provides automatic detection of fire conditions and
manually activated devices.
b) The synoptic panel showing the layout of the station and by associated LEDs allows you to
visualize the area where the alarm conditions have been detected.
The mechanical features of the Fire Detection Cabinet are described following:
The LFAP installed inside the Fire detection cabinet is based on a Central microprocessor-based
unit designed in accordance with EN54 standards.
The local fire management panel (LFAP) will be easily accessible to the Station Master Office
operator and protected from weather, vandalism, and misuse through a transparent door to allow
the visibility of the Central Unit display. The LFAP will be equipped with LCD display, sensing keys
to access to the information and the mimic panel for the visualization of the alarm area.
The system provides different level of password protection for operators and system
administrators. The system is capable of operating intelligent addressable thermal and
photoelectric detection devices, and manual stations. The LFAP will provide power, alarm,
supervision, control.
The system is characterized by diagnostic procedures that perform dynamic supervision of the
LFAP system electronics and loop wirings, detection devices and manual fire alarm unit
(addressable part) on the loop and the software. Failure of system hardware or LFAP loop wiring
will be indicated by type and location on the alphanumeric display.
Ground fault detection is provided for all circuits, and tests all visual panel indicators and
associated software.
The system will be provided with two levels of password protection, namely the operator level and
the system administrator level.
The LFAP will provide a backlighted liquid crystal display (LCD), which will provide user definable
signals associated with each detection device or zone. The LFAP system will provide failsafe
operation, i.e. incoming alarms will automatically override all other modes of operation, and LFAP
shall automatically override all other modes of operation.
The system fault indicator lamp shall flash and an integral “trouble buzzer” will sound upon the
occurrence of any trouble condition. The “trouble buzzer” will have a different sound pattern from
the “alarm buzzer”.
All power connections, whether AC or DC, will be separately fused within the control.
An audible device shall sound within the control for any changes of state, and shall be silenced by
the appropriate acknowledge switch.
The system shall be capable of measuring and adjusting the sensitivity of detectors on the loop,
and execute multiple operations at the same time. Control functions shall be based on time per
every day, days per every week schedule.
The system shall automatically indicate the total quantity of alarms and of troubles which have
occurred prior to reset at the LFAP. Any alarm trouble or supervisory indication shall not be reset
until it has been acknowledged.
For any intelligent device activated, the system shall automatically report the status of the device
and initiate the sequence of operations specified for that device, i.e., alarm, supervisory, local,
general, reporting, trouble reporting only, etc. Alarm shall have priority over trouble.
In the same rack a synoptic panel will be supplied with the printout of the stations and equipped
with LED’s that will show in case of fire condition the area affected by fire. The panel will be in
aluminum.
System trouble led will be provided to display fault status for detectors devices (if connected to the
system).
In the same rack two panel legends will be supplied with the list of rooms/areas equipped with Fire
Detection in the stations in different languages. One legend will be in arabic language and one
legend will be in english language. The panels will be in aluminum.
The operator panel is composed by a 25-key membrane keypad and a 240x128 graphic backlit
display.

The Detection loop module is controlled by an ESP microprocessor module, that as per all other
modules it is interfaced with the CPU in M402-R module. This module shall provide power supply
to all devices on the relevant loop, using two wires only.
In case of line interruption, this loop connection will assure a continuous operation of the system,
which will sense alarms or failures by means of detectors/modules.
ESP periodically will examine all detectors and modules connected on the line, thus receiving data,
which will be elaborated according to programmes, in order to declare if there is an alarm, a failure
or normal condition.
The periodical data exchange with deployed devices also allows carrying out an automatic test on
detectors. The procedure for this test shall be carried out by an operator by means of a dedicated
push-button on the keyboard. In this way all schedules as well as data from detectors will be
controlled, in order to know if maintenance is necessary.
The M407 module is designed for fire detection: it manages 6 non-addressed analogue lines,
checking their current level, signalling faults (in case of short circuit or opening) or indicating
statuses.
From the operator panel of the CS 400-R control system you can separately configure the lines,
setting pre alarm/alarm level, line disabling, single or crossed line operation, single or double
intervention (it means that a control is not done or done on the relevant input). By setting the
crossed lines option, the intervention of one line generates a pre alarm condition, while the
intervention of both lines generates the alarm condition. The double intervention implies that the
M407 module verifies the line intervention condition (for higher detection security): when an
intervention condition is detected, the line is temporarily reset. When a set amount of time has
elapsed, should the intervention persist, the alarm state is signalled.
You can also configure lines to manage the corresponding intervention as a simple warning or
fault event.
