WARNINGS
Parveen adjustable choke is used in high-pressure and high flow well service
applications. High pressure equipment, if not used and maintained properly, can cause
serious injury or death and damage to equipment and property. Not taking proper
precautions and failing to perform routine maintenance and inspections can also
contribute to loss of well control, and such loss could cause serious injury or death and
damage to equipment and property.
This product is not designed to be used for fully stopping the flow of fluids. In systems
where this is required proper isolation valves should be used in conjunction with the
choke.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Adjustable chokes are used in many oilfield applications to control the rate of flow.
Usually an adjustable choke is used as part of a manifold installed downstream of the
wellhead. The choke is adjusted during flow back of the well to control downstream
pressure and flow rates.
CHOKE SPECIFICATIONS
Parveen chokes are available in 1” 1.1/4”, 2” and 3” maximum orifice sizes. The
components that comprise the choke are made from various materials. The bonnet, tee,
and seat are made from forged alloy steel. The stem is manufactured from stainless
steel and utilizes a solid carbide tip. The choke seat is also made from stainless steel
that been fitted with a solid tungsten carbide.

OPERATION
CHOKE ADJUSTMENT
The equivalent orifice size of Parveen manually operated chokes can be easily
determined, adjusted, and set. To adjust the choke, loosen the thumbscrew, but do not
remove. Once you have loosened the thumbscrew, turn the hand wheel either
clockwise to throttle the choke closed or counter-clockwise to throttle the choke open.
Once the desired rate is achieved tighten the thumbscrew, to lock down the stem at the
desired setting. All Parveen manually adjustable chokes come with an indicator. Each
number on the indicator represents the equivalent orifice diameter in 1/64ths of an inch.
Determining the flow bean size needed for a positive choke can be determined by
reading the number shown on the indicator at the indicator line located on the bonnet
extension. The orifice size can be determined by using orifice indicator bean sizing
table, or you can multiply the indicator number by 1/64 and that will give you the orifice
size for the flow bean needed.
INSTALLATION
Install the choke in the line with the upstream piping / line. And Outlet of the valve is
connected to the downstream piping. Orient the hand wheel and grease nipple so that
they are safely accessible.
MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE
PREVENTATIVE
The choke stem will periodically need to be lubricated. If the choke has a grease fitting,
inject a few strokes of general purpose grease. To lubricate the stem first ensure there
is no pressure in the system. Rotate the hand wheel counter clock-wise until it is FULLY
open. Remove the hand wheel, indicator, and bonnet extension. There should be
approximately 3 inches of exposed thread. Apply a light coat of thread anti-seize

compound. Replace bonnet extension, indicator, and hand wheel. Turn hand wheel
clock-wise until the choke is fully shut. you will need to calibrate the indicator.
1. Bleed all the pressure from the piping system, the valve must be partially opened to
ensure the pressure trap.
2. Detect any remaining pressure in the system if pressure exists, fitting should be
tightened and pressure should bleed off at the other appropriate source.
3. Loose / remove the nut (6) by using a suitable wrench. always
Wear eye protection when striking the hammer
4. pull the bonnet assembly out of the body
5. disassembly bonnet assembly
Using a seat wrench (wrench are available from Parveen) remove the seat (15) by
sliding wrench over the seat hex. Care must be taken that wrench operation should not
damage the to the seat (15). turn the wrench counter clockwise to un screw the seat
(15) from the body (17), once the seat completely unscrew, carefully remove it from the
body (17) remove the seat gasket (16). For the positive chokes bean adapter have the
same hex that of the seat, the bean is removed in the same manner as the seat but with
a different hex wrench.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1. Inspect all the seat ring area for any corrosion, pitting or scratches.
2. Inspect the needle (14) for damage or extensive use.
3. Inspect seat (15) orifice for damage and /or excessive usage.
4. Inspect the outlet bore on the body (17) for damage / pitting/scratches.
5. Inspect stem/ needle (14) for corrosion / pitting / scratches.
6. Inspect the body-bonnet sealing surfaces for pit marks.
7. Inspect all threads for damages.
Place the seat gasket (16) in holding with bended ribs (by using player) so that the
gasket easily pass through to the choke seat (15 ) collar recess , once the gasket is
rested on the collar straighten the ribs .place the seat hex on the seat wrench. hex
grease the choke seat threads and then place the seat in the choke body with the seat
wrench holding the seat hex ,turn the wrench counter clockwise to tighten the seat to
the position(120 ft–lbs) . Remove the seat wrench and store for the future.
BONNET ASSEMBLY
• Apply grease to the stem packing gland and sealing groove on the bonnet.
• Slide junk ring (11) - back-up ring seal (12)- stem packing (12) –junkring (11) to
the bonnet packing gland .
• Retainer ring (13) in to groove in bonnet to hold the stem packing stack.
• install the bonnet seal oil ring (10)
• Grease stem threads, slides needle (14) through packing (12) stack and turn the
needle (14) clockwise to screw needle into bonnet (7).

OPERATIONAL PROCEDURE
SPS #202CH, REV-0
• drop the nylon plug (8) into the thumb screw hole and install the thumb screw (9)
(don’t tight to its end)
• Install the indicator (5) on the needle (14) (see indicator adjustment instruction for
proper calibration.
• install the hand wheel (3) followed by hand wheel washer (2) and bolt (1)
• Carefully guide the needle (14) into the seat (15) trim
• Screw the bonnet nut (6) to the body (17), for the orientation of bonnet, refer
assembly drawing.
1. The bonnet has a notch for aligning and reading the indicated orifice size (if
necessary on the side of the bonnet usually180 degree from the notch) i.e. 3/8” set
screw access hole zero point through the notch.
2. Loosen the set screw to allow the indicator to move independently of the stem.
3. turn the hand wheel in the closed direction until the needle is seated at the seat (15 )
4. With needle seated in the choke seat make indicator adjustment using 3/8” hex align
wrench in the set screw, move the indicator so that zero (0) reading is lined up with
notch tighten the set screw to the stem.
5. The indicator should be set to the proper corresponding orifice size (engraved
number 64th of inch) to check to the full open position, and then back to the seated
position.

STORAGE:
After use:
Equipment should be disassembled and cleaned after each use to ensure a long life.
Corrosive products left in a choke will greatly reduce the life of the valve.
